Bora Bora is a small island and its most popular form of transport is a moped, which travellers can rent.
Local transport is not the most reliable and taxis are expensive.
However, depending on the location of your accommodation, resorts and restaurants may be within easy walking distance. For example, Matira Point has a few resorts close by and some resorts provide free shuttles around the island.
Private transportation to and from the airport is best, and it is easy to book it ahead of time through your accommodation.

Public transport in Bora Bora
- Types of transport. Le Truck is Bora Bora's public bus system and follows ferry and school times. While it has dedicated bus stops, which are marked with blue signs, it's not uncommon for buses to pick up passengers anywhere along the coastal road. The buses have routes around half of the island and are known for being unreliable.
- Paying for transport. You pay the driver in cash when exiting the bus, and the fare is more often than not a set fare.
- Getting to and from the airport. Public transport is not used to get from the airport to resorts on the island. There is a ferry from the airport to the town of Vaitape.
- Best apps for getting around. The Bora Bora Island Offline Map Travel Guide app uses location-based navigation to guide you on the best route by foot to the island's top attractions.
Taxis and rideshare
Taxi: Taxis can be hailed from the side of the road or booked in advance. Prices are generally high and increase after 7pm.

Airport transfers in Bora Bora
Airport transfers can be organised with your resort accommodation or may be included in your holiday packages.
Frequent ferries depart from the airport to the town of Vaitape, which is where you can continue on your journey via taxi or shuttle bus.
