Merging tech with a barista brew, the De'Longhi Dinamica Plus can automate your coffee experience.

Making your coffee at home has always been considered second-rate compared to a brilliant barista brew, but the new DeLonghi Dinamica has changed my mind. Not only does this machine offer a barista-at-home experience, but you can actually work it from your phone.
You don't even need to get out of bed for a fabulous cup of joe anymore.
What is it?
The De'Longhi Dinamica Plus is a fully-automatic, bean-to-cup coffee system that does exactly that: it takes coffee straight out of the bag and, through a series of whirring noises and liquids, creates a truly delicious cup of coffee.
The quick verdict
What is it?: A bean-to-cup coffee machine that learns what you like.
How much is it ?: RRP is $1,698.99 although there you can get it for as low as $1,450.
Automatic coffee machines aren't anything new. I remember friends' parents having automatic coffee machines back in the early 2000s, but they always required a lot of tending to while brewing, and almost always broke down after half a cup was poured. Even more recently, a friend of mine had one that he often mused was "needy". Always needing to be filled, checked or rinsed.
How does is it work?
The Dinamica Plus is a breath of fresh air in this way: it's so close to automatic that you can almost do it in your sleep. Especially since this particular machine comes with an accompanying app. With the Dinamica's companion app (Coffee Link), I managed to build coffee prep into my early, early morning routine. Wake up, turn the machine on (it rinses with every initiation) and fall into the shower, and upon my exit, place a cup under the spout and command the machine to create a cup of coffee to my exact specifications.
The app allows you to customise exactly how you want your coffee, right down to the millilitres of milk vs coffee and the order in which they're delivered to the cup. Customisation goes one step further, too, with the Dinamica Plus able to brew everything from a simple cappuccino or flat white, right through to a pot of coffee from powder. It can even act as a hot milk dispenser for a late-night hot chocolate.
There are a bunch of other interesting features that set this machine apart from the rest. It can actually brew two coffees at the same time, a time-saver if you're making a coffee for someone else in the mornings. The machine itself has the ability to remember your coffee preferences. Plus, it has an advanced personalisation feature that runs through the app. You can create recipes and design a profile for yourself so that you can use your machine to make you the coffee you want when you want.
Price and affordability
All that technology doesn't exactly come cheap on the sticker, however. The Dinamica Plus will run you just shy of $1,700, which is a far cry from the $4.20 you'll pay on average for a coffee in Australia. If coffee is your thing, however, you don't need to do a lot of maths to realise that at two coffees a day, the Dinamica Plus will pay for itself in under a year.
Ultimately, the Dinamica Plus suits the work-from-home crowd. The ones who want cafe-style coffee but don't want to leave the house. I know that I love two coffees a day, and at 20-minutes for each cup, walking to the cafe doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Why you'll love it
The Dinamica Plus saved me the time and effort of making a barista brew myself, and all I had to do was press a few buttons. The Dinamica Plus is also so easy to use that anyone can get around it and make beautiful coffee in an instant. That's why it's also a no-brainer for a small (under 50 person) office environment. Thankfully for the office crowd, the Dinamica Plus needs little-to-no maintenance to keep it clean and functional.
But it's a wonderful piece of machinery to own in your home if you're a true coffee lover or if you're particularly passionate about gadgets. The Dinamica Plus has turned me into a coffee machine believer, and I challenge any snob to disagree.
