CyberGhost review: Price, performance, features compared
We break down what CyberGhost brings to the crowded market of VPN providers
CyberGhost will no doubt lure many folks in with one marketing line: "With CyberGhost's VPN proxy you can bypass the filters setup at your school, university or workplace and access YouTube and social media." Boom. Sold. No longer will those in charge get to dictate how you spend your lunch (read: actual work) hours. You can now binge-watch and meme to your heart's content from your favourite toilet stall.
Better yet, if you're into a bit of bathroom browsing you can streamline the experience further with CyberGhost. For starters, the Block Ads feature removes any code which tries to pull an ad from a dedicated server. It's better than a browser extension, too, because the processing happens on CyberGhost's servers which means less useless data will get sucked up by your mobile plan. Obviously this also extends to the blocking of malicious content as well, like anybody trying to sniff out your passwords and payment details.
Last but not least, you'll want to look into CyberGhost because it does what pretty much all VPNS do best and allows you to leap over the pesky geofences put up to country-restrict the TV and movies you really want to see. Here, it's just one simple click and then you're enjoying the lion's share of US and/or UK Netflix streaming. It's a magic trick that never gets old.

How much does CyberGhost cost?
CyberGhost offers three different plans. The smallest of toe dips is a 1-month set-up of $17.99 and you can get that rate cheaper by locking in for a 6-month plan that'll squash your monthly payment down to $10.99. However, the best offer on the board is the 10-month plan and that will cost you $4.80 a month. It's worth noting the 45-day refund policy applies to the last 2 plans in the list. The 1-month plan only has a 14-day money-back guarantee.
What payment methods does CyberGhost accept?
CyberGhost offers a wide variety of ways to pay. You've got PayPal and the usual major credit card options, plus there's an anonymity-preserving bitcoin option.
What devices does CyberGhost support?
CyberGhost is ready to haunt your:
It also goes above and beyond most of its competitors by offering Amazon Fire Stick support.
What features does CyberGhost offer?
The good news is that the process of signing up to CyberGhost couldn't be simpler. You'll select a username and a password to receive a unique personal unlock key (PUK), then after downloading the app, you're away. You don't even need to submit an email during any of this which will afford you an extra layer of anonymity.
Once you become a "Ghostie" the proprietary CyberGhost app is a cinch to use. 1 touch and 10 seconds is all you need to connect to the fastest and closest server to your location. At this point, you'll be shown your fake IP address and the country of the server you've connected to. Child's play.
The settings page isn't overflowing with the sort of in-depth options a tinkerer will want, but it has all of the expected features covered. You can easily see how many of your allowed devices are connected (maximum of seven). You can also allow a number of connection features, including the aforementioned ad-blocker, malicious site protection, data compression and better prevention of online tracking.
CyberGhost also offers a few Wi-Fi protection options. You can choose to show a warning or outright prevent when your device tries to connect to a new/different Wi-Fi source. It's also possible to keep a running list of trusted Wi-Fi signals saved to ensure the app ignores everything else. It's certainly more configurable than most on/off kill-switches I've seen in other VPNs. Last but not least, you can set up CyberGhost to use a random port to connect to the Internet, which provides a bit of extra unpredictability to potentially make you harder to track by The Man.
Speaking of, CyberGhost offers the highest encryption available using military-grade 256-bit technology. Whether you are connecting from your iPhone which uses its native IKEv2 encryption method or you've just loaded a Linux distribution on your Raspberry PI and connect through OpenVPN, you will have the most secure connection possible with CyberGhost.
And if for any reason your online habits do draw the attention of law enforcement, CyberGhost has a strict no logs policy. The company states that its servers simply do not track your activity over the Internet. In my time I've seen other large VPNs make the same privacy claim despite court cases and convictions suggesting otherwise. That said, at the time of writing CyberGhost has run afoul of no similar legal entanglements where user data has been surrendered as evidence.
What servers does CyberGhost offer?
CyberGhost has over 3,000 VPN servers in over 60 countries and these numbers keep growing.
