Steps to making sure you CUA Travel Insurance claim gets paid
Move quickly. Inform CUA of your situation as soon as possible. Be sure to submit your claims form. Not submitting a claims form and all relevant information in a timely fashion, can result in a reduced benefits.
Include as much relevant documentation as possible. Relevant information would include police and medical reports, valuations and receipts. Translating the documents will help expedite the process.
Cooperate. As the policyholder, it’s your responsibility to collect all the relevant information before submitting a claim. If you have to cut your trip short, call Allianz. All claims must be submitted in writing within 30 days before your return trip.
Important aspects of your policy
When applying for travel insurance, CUA requires you disclose all necessary information honestly. Not only does full disclosure help CUA decide whether or not to grant travel insurance, but it also ensures that if something does go wrong during your holiday, your claim will be awarded without any problems relating to missing or false information. CUA can cancel your policy or refuse to pay if it believes you have acted fraudulently.
Disputes and complaints should be addressed to CUA directly, either by phone or in writing. Complaints can also be resolved by the Financial Ombudsman.
General exclusions for CUA policies
Recklessness. If you hurt yourself or damage property by intentionally putting yourself in danger, CUA can deny your claim
Change of plans. CUA travel insurance will not pay out in the event of you and your travel companion change your plans.
Aware of circumstances and loss mitigation. If you are aware of any circumstance that might result in an event where a claim could be made (for example, an existing injury or defective equipment), the policy will not pay out.
Errors or omissions. When applying for the policy, it’s imperative that you provide all the necessary information. In the case of missing or false information, your claim can be rejected.
Insolvency. You will not be able to claim from your travel insurance if any of the service companies (hotels, car hire, activities, etc.) booked or hired declare insolvency.
Illegal activities. Under no circumstances will your travel insurance cover any claim arising from illegal behaviour and activities.
Vehicles.If you are hurt or cause damage while driving a car or riding a moped, scooter or motorcycle without a valid Australian driver’s licence (or licence for the country you’re in), the travel insurance policy will not honour your claim.
