ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 team guide: Bangladesh
With a squad blessed with veterans and consistent performers, Bangladesh will rattle some cages at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Can this team go deep into the tournament?
Did you know Bangladesh can fit into Australia 52 times?! Amazingly, it's still home to some 170 million people, mostly found in the cities of Dhaka and Chittagong. The small Asian country is surrounded on three sides by the cricket-mad Indians, so it's no wonder Bangladesh punches above its weight on the world cricket stage.
After first qualifying for the Cricket World Cup in 1999, Bangladesh hasn't missed a tournament since and even made the quarter-finals of the 2015 tournament. With better than a 50% winning record at the Cricket World Cup, Bangladesh isn't a team to take lightly.
Will Bangladesh win the 2019 Cricket World Cup?
Bangladesh has built a reputation at the Cricket World Cup for damaging the chances of better-fancied teams more than it has for making it deep into the tournament. We can expect that to continue at the 2019 edition.
Bangladesh comes into the tournament in decent form, winning every game of its tri-series with Ireland and the West Indies in early May. That has helped play the squad into some sort of rhythm. Even if a loss to Ireland and then India in the warm-up matches soured the tri-series victory somewhat.
A look across the rankings shows a team that may not have any out-and-out superstars, but a number of consistently good performers. If there is one stand-out, it's Shakib Al Hasan, with the vice-captain considered the second-best all-rounder in the world heading into the tournament. Perhaps he can lead the team to an unlikely semi-final berth.

Abu Jayed steps up for the World Cup?
30.05.19 – 25-year-old fast-bowler Abu Jayed only made his ODI debut earlier this month and will head into the Cricket World Cup having only played two ODIs. It was a slow start for the young man, but a five-wicket haul in his second game will see the bowler head into the World Cup with confidence. Despite a first class 50 to his name, Jayed isn't expected to bring much with the bat, so will need to provide plenty of strike with his right-arm, medium-fast deliveries.
