Pakistan World Cup Team L

It's been a poor run of form heading into the Cricket World Cup for Pakistan, but the country is due some big wins. Is this a Pakistan squad that can push deep into the tournament?

Pakistan has had plenty of strong results at the Cricket World Cup. The country is home to 200 million residents, the vast majority of whom are truly cricket mad. You can imagine the celebrations when, back in 1992, Pakistan claimed the Cricket World Cup, led by cricket legends Imran Khan (now prime minister) and Wasim Akram.

Pakistan almost did it again the last time the Cricket World Cup was held in England, too. The imposing bat of Inzamam-ul-Haq and the thundering pace of Shoaib Akhtar weren't quite enough to topple the Aussies at Lord's in the final, but it's clear Pakistan like the cooler weather of the mother country.

Will Pakistan win the 2019 Cricket World Cup?

Sadly, Pakistan have been well out of form in recent months and lost every contested match in a series against England in May, just after being belted by Australia at "home" in the UAE in March. Pakistan even lost to Bangladesh a few weeks ago. But the World Cup is a new competition and the Pakistan squad brings with it the exuberance of youth and unpredictability.

Pakistan 2019 Cricket World Cup team news

Pakistan looking to break 10-match drought

31.05.19 - The first match of the Cricket World Cup is vital for Pakistani confidence, with 0 wins registered in the country's last 10 matches. Adding to that, in the last 23 matches the country has only picked up victories against top-5 sides 3 times. In the West Indies, though, Pakistan faces a lesser-ranked team and could very well find the morale-boosting victory it seeks.

Pakistan to part ways with coach and selector

29.05.19 – If Pakistan are in search of extra motivation, they may have found it off the field. One-time Australia coach and current Pakistan mastermind, Mickey Arthur will move on after the World Cup is completed, as will Pakistan's most celebrated batsman, Inzamam-ul-Haq, who is currently national team selector. Surely the team will want to send the duo out on a winning note.
