Do you want a low rate or a platinum credit card? Southern Cross Credit Union provides both kinds.
Southern Cross Credit Union began operations in 1966, in the form of Tweed BGF Members Credit Union, to serve banking needs of local banana growers. A merger with Lismore Community Credit Union in 1975 resulted in a change of name, leading to the name, Tweed Byron Credit Union. The existing name, Southern Cross Credit Union, came into effect in 1997, and this credit union services more than 20,000 members through its 10 branches located across the Northern Rivers, from Tweed Heads to Ballina to Casino. This credit union offers a range of financial services and products, which include two types of credit cards.

Types of credit cards Southern Cross Credit Union provides
A number of credit unions across Australia provide MyCard MasterCard credit cards, and so does Southern Cross Credit Union. These credit cards vary in terms of features, interest rates, and fees, so choose wisely.
Low rate credit cards
A low rate credit card, as the name implies, comes with a low interest rate, and you can’t expect such a card to offer too many extras. The Low Rate MyCard MasterCard that Southern Cross Credit Union provides comes with a special rate for balance transfers, and if you pay your balances in full you can get up to 55 interest free days on purchases. Cardholders can look forward to utilising free basic insurance covers.
Platinum credit cards
A typical platinum card comes linked to a rewards program and tends to offer cardholders other extras as well. In addition to giving you the ability to earn and redeem reward points, the Platinum MyCard MasterCard offers a number of complimentary insurance covers, and gives you access to a platinum concierge service. An introductory interest rate is in place for purchases and balance transfers, and you can get as many as 55 interest free days on purchases.
Benefits of getting a credit card from Southern Cross Credit Union
MasterCard finds acceptance at more than 22 million locations around the world, so you can look forward to using both these credit cards while travelling overseas. Getting a MyCard MasterCard through Southern Cross Credit Union comes with other benefits too.
Discounted annual fee
If you apply before a given date you get to keep paying a discounted annual fee for as long as you keep your account active, and this applies to both credit cards.
Free insurance covers
Guaranteed pricing scheme and purchase cover insurance are standard extras with, both, low rate and platinum cards. If you have the platinum card you get additional covers in the form of international travel insurance, interstate flight inconvenience insurance, and transit accident insurance.
Platinum concierge service
A platinum concierge service is at the disposal of platinum cardholders, and cardholders can avail of this service at any time. This service can assist you in locating restaurants and making reservations; in making flight and hotel reservations; in booking tickets for movies, live shows, and concerts; and in a number of business related matters.
The Platinum MyCard MasterCard offers a interest rate for months, applicable on purchases and balance transfers. The Low Rate MyCard MasterCard offers a discounted interest rate for months on balance transfers.

Does it take much time to complete the online application?
It’s a good idea to begin with all the required information close at hand, and if you do this you can get through the application in about 10 to 15 minutes. You can save an incomplete application at any stage and retrieve it later.

After you use your card for a given duration you can apply for an increase in your card’s limit, but approval is subject to the discretion of Card Services.
