If you're planning to leave Western Australia for an interstate or overseas trip this year, you will need to prove you are COVID-free and safe to travel. You'll also be required to complete a G2G Pass prior to your departure.

In addition to being fully vaccinated, most countries require you to take a PCR test before you leave. Failure to show a COVID-19 Travel Certificate could result in the airline refusing to board you.

As of November 2021, Perth has a closed border in place but all that will change once 90% of its population is double vaccinated. Here's what you can expect when international travel returns and we begin to embrace the new normal.

PCR tests in Perth

COVID-19 testing for pre-departure international travel clearance is only available at private pathology collection centres. This means you cannot rely on a free test from a COVID testing clinic. Instead, you will need to pay a fee for a COVID-19 Travel Certificate.

Fortunately, it's not too difficult to book an RT-PCR test and get your certification for as little as $100. You can arrange a test from a number of clinics around WA up to 72 hours before you fly. The amount you pay will depend on the clinic and how quickly you need the results.

You can find a list of clinic locations where you can book a test and receive your COVID-19 Travel Certificate below.

How to book an PCR test before arriving at the airport

A number of private clinics provide RT-PCR tests for travel from collection centre locations around Perth. Clinics operating in Perth and wider WA include Western Diagnostics Pathology and Clinipath Pathology.

To book a test, simply head to the website of your preferred (or most local) testing provider and follow the relevant appointment booking instructions outlined. Some testing locations don't actually require an appointment and offer services on a walk in basis.

How much do Express PCR tests cost?

An Express RT-PCR Swab test from Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology costs $145. If you are travelling to China, you will also need to take a Blood Antibody test. Both tests combined cost $195.

When will Perth open its borders?

The Western Australia government has confirmed that it will only start to safely transition and ease border controls once a 90% double dose vaccination rate is achieved. Until then, WA is still in a state of lockdown.
