Here are the steps to take when applying for a COTA travel insurance policy.

How do I make a claim with COTA?

Here’s what to do if you need to file a claim.

  • Get emergency help. Notify emergency assistance immediately and get the help you need. Then, download and complete the claim forms available on COTA’s website.
  • Submit original documentation. Attach all relevant documentation to support your claim. This includes police and medical reports, receipts, valuations and anything else that will expedite the claims process.
  • Be thorough. You must provide all required information truthfully. Dishonest, false or incomplete information may result in your claim being rejected or your policy being cancelled entirely.

Q. Who can apply for COTA travel insurance?

  • A. Applicants must be Australian residents and must return to Australia at the end of their trip. You can’t apply for insurance if you’ve already started your trip.

Q. Is there policy excess?

  • A. No standard excess applies. However, an excess may apply to each event relating to your pre-existing medical conditions.

Q. Is my pre-existing medical condition covered?

  • A. If your condition doesn’t appear on the list of illnesses and conditions automatically covered by COTA policies, you can purchase additional cover.

Q. What if I only want to cover lost deposits and cancellation?

  • A. COTA offers a Deposits and Cancellation policy as a single or family option for three, six, nine or 12 months. This plan covers cancellation costs up to $5,000 on the family option.

Q. When does cover start?

  • A. Your cover starts immediately after you pay for your travel insurance online or over the phone by credit card. You’ll receive immediate confirmation along with the Certificate of Insurance.

Q. Can I cancel my COTA policy if I’m not happy with it?

  • A. You have 14 days during which you can cancel your policy, starting from the day the Certificate of Insurance was issued
