Convex CRV, or cvxCRV, is a cryptocurrency associated with the Convex Finance protocol. Convex Finance was developed to improve the level of rewards earned by those interacting with Curve Finance, a decentralised exchange (DEX). The Convex Finance protocol help to boost rewards for liquidity providers (LPs) and those holding Curve Finance’s native cryptocurrency, CRV.
As Curve Finance is becoming more popular, the native CRV token is becoming increasingly more valuable. However, for those that do not wish to hold on to CRV tokens, Convex Finance offers an increased set of rewards to combat the staking rewards offered by Curve. According to the project’s whitepaper, instead of locking CRV tokens into Curve and receiving the native veCRV, Convex offers users the option to stake CRV and receive cvxCRV. cvxCRV token holders are then entitled to veCRV rewards that would have been provided by the Curve Finance exchange with native staking, a proportion of all Convex Finance fees, CVX rewards (the native utility token of Convex Finance) and access to airdrops that veCRV holders are eligible for. As a result of utilising such a unique operational set-up, it is possible for liquidity providers to accumulate boosted CRV alongside lucrative liquidity mining rewards with little to no effort.
