PEOPLE is the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum-based decentralised autonomous organisation (DAO), PeopleDAO. PeopleDAO aims to build, incubate, and support other DAOs that seek to advance the Web3 space and do things for the good of society. People DAO was born out of the now-defunct ConsitutionDAO, which was an ambitious project conducted by a group of Internet friends who sought to buy a copy of the United States Constitution from the well-known auction house, Sotheby’s. Unfortunately, after raising $47 million from over 14,000 contributors, the team’s bid was not accepted, which compelled it to cease operations and refund investors who bought PEOPLE tokens.
According to the project’s website, as a result of the incredible story that users had become a part of, various communities across the globe decided to form PeopleDAO in December 2021 and create an ecosystem powered by PEOPLE, the new governance token. PEOPLE token holders can participate in governance decisions as they experiment with the metaDAO and subDAO organisational structure.
