Coles Rewards Mastercard review

The Coles Rewards Mastercard is an ideal choice if you shop at a Coles Supermarket or at any flybuys partners. The ability to accumulate 2 points for every $1 spent can offset the $99 annual fee if the card is used regularly. Points add up quickly and you can receive $10 off a Coles Supermarket purchase when you redeem 2,000 points. The card, with no foreign transaction fees, could also be of value to regular globetrotters! The Coles Mastercard also offers up to 62 days interest-free on purchases as long as the balances are paid off each month by the due date.

Benefits of the Coles Rewards Mastercard

The Coles Rewards Mastercard comes with its share of benefits, and here’s what you can look forward to as a cardholder:

  • Rewards program. The Coles Rewards Mastercard offers 2 flybuys points per $1 spent on eligible purchases. Enjoy $10 off any Coles Supermarket shop after redeeming 2,000 flybuys points. Flybuys points can also be redeemed for a range of merchandise and do not expire if you redeem or earn points at least once every 12 months.
  • No international transaction fees. When you shop online or make purchases overseas you will not be charged a foreign transaction fee.
  • Balance transfer offer. A 0% p.a. for 6 months balance transfer can be requested once your account is set up (your card must be linked to your online account). Balance transfer reverts to purchase rate after promotional period. Once your card is linked to your online account, a request can either be made through the Coles Mastercard Customer Care team or by filling in a balance transfer request via the Balance Transfer PDF available on the Coles Mastercard website.
  • Up to 62 interest-free days. Coles Rewards Mastercard offers up to 62 days interest-free on purchases as long as the balance is paid in full each statement cycle. This allows you to use the card and earn valuable points while minimising interest costs.
  • Card security. Falcon fraud management system monitors account activity and keeps an eye out for suspicious transactions. Mastercard’s zero liability policy works in providing that added peace of mind.

Features of the Coles Rewards Mastercard

The Coles Rewards Mastercard comes with a number of features, including:

  • Annual fee. The Coles Rewards Mastercard $99 annual fee is charged on the date of your first purchase and on every year afterwards.
  • International cash withdrawal fee. You will be charged 1.5% of the transaction amount for cash withdrawals outside of Australia or in a foreign currency.
  • Mastercard PayPass. Tap and go at the checkout to make contactless payments for purchases under $100. For purchase amounts over $100, you’ll need to key in your PIN number.
  • Free Delivery on Coles online. This applies to any single purchase from Coles online when you spend $100 or more with your Coles Rewards Mastercard.
  • Online account management and Coles Mobile Wallet. You can manage your account, and pay bills through the mobile app or online. This creates an easy way to manage your finances, check balances and view all your account information securely.

I have a 28 degrees card (with a small credit card limit) which I use when I travel internationally. I can load this with cash prior to pay for things (eg. accommodation) that may cost more than my credit card limit. Is it possible to do this with the Coles card?

Does using the card while travelling internationally attract flybuys points?

      Hi Vv,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

Typically you can earn flybuy points through eligible transactions that exclude cash advances, credit fees or charges, credits, refunds, reimbursements, business purchases or balance transfers into your account.

I hope this information has helped.

Could you please advise which ATMs I c an use without paying a transaction fee?

      HaroldApril 20, 2017Staff

      Hi Leanne,

      Thank you for your inquiry.

In general, across-border assessment fee and a currency conversion assessment fee is charged when you withdraw cash from an automatic teller machine outside Australia or when you make a cash advance at international merchants in a currency other than Australian dollars.

I hope this information has helped.

      Hi Tim,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

So long that Jetstar or Qantas accepts your card as a form of payment, then you can use your Coles MasterCard for your ticket purchases with these airlines.

I have this card and it has a “International Transaction Fee: 2.5% on all purchases and cash. Refer to Financial Table.”. That sounds like an international transaction fee yet your comparison does not show this?

    • Staff
      YsaJune 6, 2016Staff

      Hi Adam,

      Thanks for your question.

As mentioned above, there is no international transaction fees on purchases when you shop online or when you’re overseas. While the 2.5% only applies on cash withdrawals outside of Australia or in a foreign currency.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

    1) Is there a fee for an additional card?
    2) Which bank is this credit card organised through?
    3) Do you have security that detects unusual activity on you card
    and notifies us immediately?

      Hi Deb,

Thanks for your questions. Please note that is a financial comparison and information service and not Coles.

      Here are my answers:

      1. Coles Rewards MasterCard does not charge for yearly additional cardholder fee.
      2. It is among the credit cards offered by Latitude Financial Services
      3. Your credit card has three layers of defence against fraud and theft as discussed on the page I’ve sent to your email.

      I hope this helps.

Just wondering why this says there are no foreign transaction fees on this card since I have this card and it charges 2.5% plus a $4 fee for at the moment withdrawal or $5 over the counter fee. And that’s not including cash advance fees either.

    • Staff
      MayApril 13, 2016Staff

      Hi Lauren,

      Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes, Coles Rewards MasterCard charges $2.50 and $4 on overseas cash advance and overseas ATM withdrawal fees, respectively. This is actually outlined in the “fees and repayments” section of the table above.

As for the foreign transaction fees, when making purchases overseas and on international sites, merchants usually charge you with international transaction fees for every transaction. But with this card, you can save on costs by paying no international transaction fees on purchases you make.

      Hope this answers your question.

      Hi David,

      Thanks for reaching out.

Unfortunately, the Coles flybuys program does not have a partnership with Qantas at the moment.
