Top up your points balance while you top up your app credit.

This week's Coles gift card offer for scoring bonus points on your flybuys offers 2,000 bonus points for a handful of $50 gift cards: Google Play, Hoyts, Gourmet Traveller and the "Ultimate Kids Gift Card", which can be spent in JB Hi-Fi, Rebel Sport, Dymocks, Toys "R" Us, Cotton On Kids and Amart Sports.

The latest Coles catalogue reveals that the bonus points offer will be available in store from 11 April to 17 April.

Straight up, this isn't quite as appealing as last week's deal which offered 2,000 points for a $50 EFTPOS gift card, because you could spend that money literally anywhere.

The standout option is the Google Play offer, though that's only useful if you regularly purchase apps, in-game credits, movies or music for your phone or tablet. However, with Android the most popular smartphone operating system in Australia, that's potentially quite a large audience.

That said, $50 is a reasonable amount for a kids' gift card or for spending at Hoyts, so it could be a possibility for your gift list.

The bonus points also apply if you buy a higher denomination (such as $100) for any of the cards, but you don't score any extra points for doing so, so that's only worth contemplating if you are genuinely planning to give someone a $100 gift.

As ever, we'd advise converting your flybuys points into Velocity points to get the biggest bang for your buck. 2,000 flybuys points converts to 870 Velocity Points.

As a points boost, this pales next to signing up for a frequent flyer credit card. If you haven't already done that, compare the deals currently on offer.
