While some of the prices are a little inflated, the ticket resales are relatively competitive considering the festival is completely sold out. You’ll find a lot of ticket resales on Ebay and Gumtree, but only Viagogo has its ticket guarantee to protect you against fraudulent transactions. Start comparing your options and make sure the seller is credible before clicking "Buy".

Next, you’ll need to book somewhere to stay near the event

Coachella offers some on-site accommodation, with basic camping spots (where you’ll need to bring your own tent) and glamping sites (where everything is set up for you, including your bed).

While the cheapest options, which is the basic camping spots, are already sold out, the glamping options are still available.

However, it’s not cheap; a Lake Eldorado Tee Pee site is $2398 for two people ($1199 each), which is about the price of the flight for one person from Australia to Los Angeles.

So we’ve taken a look at what else is available near the event, and it turns out off-site options are much cheaper. Plus, for those who don’t like camping, there are comfortable hotel/motel accommodation with ensuites.

Options around the Palm Springs area are a bit limited around the festival time, but we’ve managed to find a few affordable options – especially compared to the on-site glamping rates.

We’ve looked at three nights accommodation (arriving Friday and departing Monday):

  • Homestay at Villa 3633 for $569 total ($285 per person)
  • 2-star Knights Inn Palm Springs - $650 total ($325 per person)
  • 3-star Desert Isle of Palm Springs (with kitchenette) - $640 total ($320 per person)

If you need transportation from your accommodation to the festival, Coachella sells shuttle passes to major Palm Springs hotels and a few surrounding areas for $60 per weekend.

Lastly, you’ll need to book a flight

STA Travel currently has flights to Los Angeles on sale, starting as low as $869 per person, round trip. These flights are available from until June, meaning you can bag a bargain on a flight around the dates of Coachella.

Alternatively, Virgin currently has flights to Los Angeles on sale, with return fares starting at just $1171 return per person. These flights are available from 17 April, so you’ll only be able to take advantage of this sale if you’re planning on attending the second weekend of Coachella.

...And transportation from the airport

While Los Angeles is the nearest major international airport to the festival, it is still a four-hour drive from the site. You’ll have a few options to get there:

  • Coachella festival operates shuttles from LAX to the campsite and a few surrounding hotels for $50 each way, per person. So if you’re travelling as a group of two, that’s $200 in transfers.
  • Hire an entry-level car for three days from the airport, picking it up on Friday and returning it on Monday:
    • Europcar - US$124 (AUD$161) for three days, or $80.50 per person
    • Avis - USD$135 (AUD$176) for three days, or $88 per person
    • Hertz - AUD$177 for three days, or $88.50 per person

If you choose to rent a car, you might be able to save a bit extra with these deals below:

So how does this all add up? Let's do the maths:

Brisbane Melbourne Sydney

Coachella Tickets $488.92 $488.92 $488.92
Accommodation $285 $285 $285
Transportation (Car) $80.50 $80.50 $80.50
