Clover Finance intends to be a multi-purpose decentralised finance (DeFi) platform that bridges multiple blockchains. Decentralised application (dApp) developers can use Clover Finance to support Polkadot-based infrastructure while using Ethereum-based platforms. Ultimately, Clover Finance is focused on enhancing cross-chain functionality and intends to add Bitcoin, among other blockchains, into their web of interoperability. The platform offers users an "always-on", multichain wallet which can host a wide variety of tokens and is compatible with a growing number of Ethereum and Polkadot-based dApps. According to the whitepaper, an important goal for Clover Finance is to simplify transaction (gas) fees. While many DeFi applications require fees to be paid in a specific (typically ETH) token, Clover lets users pay fees in the same token they are transacting. CLV is a cross-chain token that is vital to the economic and governance structure of the Clover Finance network. Operating simultaneously on the EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) and Polkadot networks, the CLV token has a variety of use cases. It can be used for deploying dApps on the Clover protocol, staking, paying transaction fees and voting on "council" members.
