What is Click Frenzy™ and how did it start?
Click FrenzyTM is a series of massive online sales events which are held to coincide with the major shopping periods throughout the calendar year. The first Click FrenzyTM was held in November, 2012, and it's just getting bigger and better every year.
We're now well and truly in the run up to Christmas, so this is one of the last opportunities to bag a few bargain gifts. Adobe Digital Index predicts that Australians will spend $7 billion online as Christmas approaches, so there's plenty to be saved.
Click Frenzy™ is brought to us by Global Marketplace. The concept comes from the original Cyber Monday sales which run in the United States. Cyber Monday is the held on the Monday following Thanksgiving Day and was established to help online retailers partake in the largest shopping day for those located in the US — Black Friday. Cyber Monday runs for 24 hours and offers incredible deals from online retailers and the sales it generates are growing tremendously.
Based upon this success, the idea of an Australian equivalent was born and called Click Frenzy™. For 24 amazing hours, customers can access phenomenal sales and discounts across a huge range of products from some of Australia’s largest retailers. Customers can narrow down what they are looking to purchase by selecting to view offers by category or alternatively, by searching for a particular brand or product name. This online sales event truly does change the face of the internet in Australia for 24 hours.
Click Frenzy™ in the media
The original Click Frenzy™ received an enormous amount of media coverage, being promoted in the news by Australia’s free to air television stations, along with coverage in newspapers. Several well known retailers including Peter Alexander, Myer, Dell and Target joined in to offer great deals specifically for the sales period through their eCommerce websites.
Are the major Australian retailers embracing Click Frenzy™?
It appears as though there’s a mixed view on the worthwhileness of the online sales offering. Several of Australia’s largest retailers have been seen to boycott the event and some have gone even further. Harvey Norman launched it’s own sale – Shop Frenzy – which has coincided with prior Click Frenzy™ events. Similar moves have also been seen from David Jones who have run offers including 20 percent discounts when you spend a certain amount, along with Apple and David Jones who also launched rival sales.
