What is Civic?
Blockchain technology opens up a lot of ways for new companies to disrupt pre-existing industries. Civic (CVC) has stated that it aims to disrupt the identity verification (IDV) industry by using the blockchain to change the way we interact with the world.
Civic is primarily designed for 3 main users:
Service providers that need to verify their customers' identity Validators that hold their customers' identification documents, such as banks, or those that provide IDV services General users that want to access and verify their identity for various services. For example, proving they are not underage, or opening a trading account on the stock market The blockchain lets Civic verify user information without actually revealing any personal information. For example, a user might confirm their full name, address, date of birth, phone number, social security number and credit score to a company, without actually giving the company any of that information. Instead, that particular user can simply have it confirmed via the Civic platform. This can be done with 100% certainty thanks to smart contracts on the tamper-proof and immutable blockchain. Similarly, a company won't need to verify a user's information independently. This saves them the headache of needing to operate within an entirely separate industry standard for the management and storage of sensitive customer information.
As well as improving the privacy of identification, another key goal of Civic is to provide without easy access to government ID a way to participate in services such as health care and finance.
CVC is the native token of the Civic platform and is used for confirming transactions and verifying identities.
