What to consider when buying Nintendo gifts for Christmas

Make sure it's compatible

If you're looking to buy a controller, headset or other Nintendo Switch accessory this Christmas, it pays to be overly cautious when checking whether the gift is indeed compatible with the Nintendo Switch. There are an awful lot of video game accessories and peripherals on the market, and many only work with one console or another. Purchasing a headset that supports the PS4 might not work with the Nintendo Switch and vice versa. So be sure to double-check which systems your gift is built for to avoid compatibility issues come Christmas Day.

What kind of Switch owner are you buying for?

As a hybrid portable/home console, the Nintendo Switch supports a variety of gaming lifestyles. Some people use their Switch exclusively as a traditional console, leaving it hooked up to the TV to play games on the big screen. Others treat it as a purely portable device, only playing it on their commute or while they're out and about. And some switch between the two (geddit?)

It's important to keep this in mind when shopping for a Christmas gift. A wired Pro Controller, for instance, wouldn't be an ideal present for someone who only plays their Switch in the cramped confines of a train carriage. Similarly, a nice carry case won't do much good if your giftee never takes their Switch out of its dock. If you're not sure which kind of Switch owner you're buying for, check with their friends or family to find out.
