Chinese rideshare DiDi to launch in Newcastle

To celebrate, you can score up to $50 ride credit plus free rides on select days.

DiDi is one of the hottest new rideshare services to launch in Australia since Uber first took root.

Currently in Melbourne and Geelong, it's finally expanding into NSW and its first stop is Newcastle.

Landing on 11 March, it's timed well to coincide with some of the biggest events of the season including Drop Music Festival and Newcastle Beer Festival. It's also got a slew of incentives such as free ride days and rider discounts to entice you to ride with them.

To start off with, eager riders who sign up before 11 March will receive a welcome voucher pack worth $50. That's right, you'll get ten $5 vouchers just for registering your details.

If you're already registered, you can introduce friends to DiDi and still be rewarded with vouchers through the rider referral program.

Between 11-31 March DiDi will also be offering 50% off rides in Newcastle capped to a maximum of $10 per trip and two trips per day. So trips of $20 are your sweet spot for a decent bargain.

This mirrors DiDi's launch deal when it started in Melbourne last year.

On top of the half-off deal, you can score two $20 rides for free every #DiDiDAY which are planned for Saturday 16, 23 and 30 March.

Marketing manager for DiDi Australia Douglas Toy says, "DiDi aims to provide Novocastrians with affordable rides so that they can make the most of Newcastle's beaches, festivals and events. We are excited to start operating in Newcastle, our first city in NSW, where we aim to help Novocastrians spend less and live more."

You can download the app through iTunes or the Play Store now.
