Chinese New Year 2021: The best makeup collections we’ve seen so far
Ring in the Lunar New Year with one of these themed beauty lines.
With the Chinese New Year now just around the corner, a range of leading beauty brands have announced limited edition collections for the occasion. 2021 is the Year of the Ox and, while not all brands have stuck to the theme, there are plenty of fun collections around that you'll want to snap up.
From MAC Cosmetics to Fenty Beauty, we've rounded up all of our favourite lines below for you to check out.
1. MAC Cosmetics Moon Masterpiece collection
When/where to buy it: Available now from the MAC Cosmetics online store.
While MAC clearly missed the memo about it being the Year of the Ox, there's still plenty to love about its collection.
Start your new year with a golden glow thanks to the Extra Dimension Skin Finish/Moon Masterpiece highlighter, then add some drama with the nine-shade Sea of Plenty eyeshadow palette. Finish things off with a swipe of the Good Health/Great Wealth Power Blush Duo and one of five Powder Kiss Lipsticks.
2. Clinique Limited Edition Cheek Pop Highlighter
When/where to buy it: Available now from Clinique online.
Clinique has only released one beauty product for the Lunar New Year, but it might just be the most adorable one we've seen. The limited-edition Cheek Pop Highlighter comes in the shimmery Gold Celebration Pop shade and features an embossed cartoon-style Ox in its midst.
If the highlighter is anything like last year's edition, it will sell out fast, so you'll want to be quick to get your hands on one.
3. ColourPop Cosmetics Lunar New Year Collection
When/where to buy it: Available now from ColourPop Cosmetics online.
To celebrate the Year of the Ox, affordable makeup label ColourPop Cosmetics has released an entire line consisting of two eyeshadow palettes, a Light My Firecracker Lippie Stix Kit, Lantern Fest Super Shock Highlighter, Vanilla Pearl Overnight Lip Mask and Golden Pearl Shimmering Dry Oil.
Each product comes in red and gold themed packaging and comes in at under US$29 each, making it one of the most affordable collections we've seen so far.
4. Fenty Beauty New Year Glow Lip + Luminizer Set
When/where to buy it: Available now from Sephora.
Fenty Beauty's New Year line features both the popular Diamond Bomb All-Over Diamond Veil in shade Royal Icing (champagne gold) and the Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer in shade Cheeky (shimmering bright red-orange).
The limited-edition set also comes in themed packaging featuring the most significant colours in Chinese culture: red for luck and celebration, and gold for wealth and fortune.
5. Charlotte Tilbury Lunar New Year Collection
When/where to buy it: Available now from Charlotte Tilbury online.
Similar to last year, Charlotte Tilbury has released a limited-edition version of its cult-favourite Magic Cream for the festivities. Now available in a gold and red starburst design, the moisturiser accompanies three K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipsticks in similar gold and red studded packaging.
The lipsticks come in three shades of Sweet Blossom (rusty rose), Lucky Cherry (bright cherry red) and Rose Wish (brick red), making it easy to find one to suit.
6. LUSH Lunar New Year Collection
When/where to buy it: Available now from the LUSH online store.
Featuring two fun new products, LUSH's Lunar New Year line is one not to miss.
Keep away evil spirits with the ylang-ylang and jasmine-scented Chinese Legend Bubble Stick or snap up a Godiva Lucky Coin Shampoo Bar to scrub the remnants of last year away.
