If you are savvy about your financial products, then you will know all about the inclusions and the features you are already covered by. In this case, you may realise that when it comes to travel insurance, there are some crossover features you are already protected by in your other health insurance, life insurance or financial products and if you are looking for a more affordable, tailored travel insurance solution then you may want to consider the Chi Travel Insurance Non-Medical policy.

What's included in this policy?

If you’re after a travel insurance policy that provides you with only the essentials, non-medical cover may be the policy for you. Chi Travel Insurance Non-Medical Cover includes only the following features:

  • Cancellation fees and lost deposits. This feature covers you for costs incurred when you have to cancel your prepaid travel arrangements because of illness, injury, strikes, collisions, retrenchment or natural disasters. You can get back any cancellation fees and deposits you lose when you are forced to change your travel plans.
  • Travel service provider insolvency. This feature protects you against financial loss if a travel services provider you have booked with, becomes insolvent.
  • Additional expenses. This feature will protect you against any additional travel expenses or accommodation if you, your travelling companion or a relative are sick or injured, or die. For example, your travelling companion or a relative can claim their accommodation and travel expenses if they need to stay near you or escort you after your hospitalisation or medical evacuation. This feature also includes cover in case of piste closure due to adverse snow conditions and cover to allow you to hire ski and/or golf equipment if your equipment is lost, stolen or damaged.
  • Accidental death cover. Pays a death benefit to your beneficiaries or your estate in the event you die within 12 months and as the result of, an injury you suffered while travelling.
  • Permanent disability benefit. Pays you a benefit if you are permanently disabled for at least 12 months and within 12 months, as the result of an injury you suffered on your journey. Eligible permanent disabilities include the total loss of sight in one or both eyes, the loss of the use of a hand or the loss of the use of a foot, where the disability is expected to continue indefinitely.
  • Lost travel documents. This covers you for the replacement costs for your passport, credit cards, travel documents or traveller’s cheques if these items are lost or stolen.
  • Stolen cash. You are insured if your bank notes, cash, money orders, postal orders or currency are stolen from your person.
  • Replacement or repair of luggage. You are covered for the cost to replace or repair luggage and personal effects which are lost, stolen or accidentally damaged. Eligible items include luggage, spectacles, personal effects, personal computers and cameras.
  • Delay of luggage. You are covered if your luggage and personal effects are misdirected, misplaced or delayed by your carrier for more than 12 hours and you are required to purchase essential clothing and personal items.
  • Delayed travel. Travel delays are an almost expected part of any journey, as there are so many variables that can affect your travel providers. However, this doesn’t make it any less frustrating to have to wait for your travel plans to sort themselves out, but what can make it easier is if you have a travel insurance benefit to cover the cost of additional meals and accommodation while you wait. You are eligible to claim for additional meal and accommodation costs if your journey is delayed more than six hours, as the result of circumstances outside of your control.
  • Delayed transport. You may also have organised transport connections but if one of your transport providers is delayed, it can ruin all of your plans. Therefore, your Chi travel insurance covers you for additional travel expenses you need to outlay after a delay, in order to reach a sporting event, funeral, wedding, or conference to meet prepaid travel or tour arrangements.
  • Personal liability covers. Provides you with up to $5 million of personal liability cover to pay for legal expenses associated with bodily injuries or damage to property belonging to another person, as the result of a claim made against you.
  • Rental vehicle covers. When you hire a vehicle on your trip, you need to take out insurance for your hire period. This insurance includes an excess amount, as most insurance does – where you have to pay the excess if you make an at fault claim. Therefore, your Chi travel insurance will pay this excess if your rental vehicle is damaged, crashed or stolen up to an amount of $3,000. This feature also provides cover if you need your travel insurance to return the rental vehicle for you. You can choose an additional premium to increase the amount of this feature to $6,000.

Who can apply for cover?

If you want to tailor your travel insurance cover, or if you have a pre-existing medical condition, non-medical travel insurance may be the option for you. You can apply for non-medical travel insurance with Chi Insurance if you are any age and since you are not covered by any of the hospital or medical features of the travel insurance policy, your pre-existing medical condition does not exclude you from cover.
