Boy is it heating up in the war for bums on seats and apps on phones at the Taxi rank. The latest stoush comes just a day after goCatch went for the jugular with a strongly worded press release pitching the service’s strengths to journalists across the land. On February 26, goCatch went on the front foot, saying – among other things – “As the world begins to turn its nose up at the San Francisco based, money hungry, surge pricing, take no prisoners approach of this $60 billion company, goCatch is steadily growing its market share nationwide.”

Uber has struck back by partnering with one of the world’s largest luxury hotel chains, Starwood. The move is a damaging blow for goCatch sending it straight back to the panel beaters by offering an incredible incentive for business travellers to use the global service.

Members of Uber who sign up for a Starwood Preferred Guest membership – which is free – can now link the two accounts. Staying a night in a Starwood Hotel (including the likes of the W, Westin and Sheraton hotels) then activates the rewards program through the whole of 2015. It starts at one point earned for every dollar spent with Uber, but there’s multipliers involved depending on the specifics of your ride, such as whether you’re catching an Uber cab to a Starwood Hotel. A one night stay at Starwood starts at 2,000 points, so if you’re frequently on the move you can earn a free night’s stay with ease.

But wait, there’s more. Here at Finder, we have an exclusive offer where you can get $10 off your first Uber ride. So you can start your Starpoints account and get it moving in the right direction for free, right now. Today.
