  • Get an online quote. Using your travel and personal information as determining factors, CGU’s online tool can calculate a quote for your insurance premiums.
  • Read up on what’s covered. Make sure you’re familiar with all aspects of your chosen policy, from the technical wording to exactly what is covered by the terms of the contract.
  • Check out additional options. If you require additional cover for sporting activities or special items, check the policy information to make sure these options are available.

Start the claims process with the following steps:

  1. Call CGU. Get in touch as soon as possible by phone.
  2. Have your documents at hand. Be prepared to provide details from your Certificate of Insurance, medical and police reports and/or information from your transport provider or travel agent.

CGU travel insurance frequently asked questions

Q. Can I change details about my policy?

  • A. You can submit a request online to have your policy updated.

Q. How long does it take to process a claim?

  • A. That depends on the nature of your claim. Some take longer than others, but you can help the process along by having all the necessary information ready.

Q. Which documents can I request online?

  • A. You can request any document online and have it sent to you within two business days. For more urgent requests, get in touch by phone.

Q. How is an “at fault” dispute settled?

  • A. Allianz will make every effort to get an accurate description of the event from the parties involved and cooperative eyewitnesses. If you are unhappy with the decision, you can file a complaint through a three-step dispute resolution process.

Q. What’s involved with the three-step dispute resolution process?

  • A. First, get in touch with Allianz and speak with a claims consultant. If you’re still not happy, ask to speak to a team manager. Then, seek a review. You will be referred to an Internal Dispute Resolution Team who will review your dispute. Finally, seek an external review. This involves bringing your case to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Q. Can someone claim on my behalf?

  • A. Yes, but that person will have to provide written consent from you to file the claim.

Q. Who is CGU underwritten by?

  • A. These policies are underwritten by CGU Insurance Limited.

Q. Can I cancel my CGU policy if I’m not happy with it?

  • A. GCU allows a cooling-off period of 21 days. During this period you can cancel your policy and receive a full refund of premiums paid if you haven’t yet left on your holiday or filed a claim.
