Fast facts about the Caribbean

Where is it? Between North and South America, the Caribbean Sea and its many islands sits in the western Atlantic Ocean. It's home to countries like Cuba, Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic. Much of Central America's coastline borders the sea, too.

How do I get there? Direct flights from Australia aren't currently available, but you can get there easily via the United States, Canada or Mexico. Alternatively, you can take a cruise from various ports along the eastern United States, like Miami, New Orleans and Fort Lauderdale.

When should I go? February to April are the best months to go as it's just outside of the busy Christmas/New Year period and before hurricane season begins.

What should I do? Explore the pristine beaches, dive and snorkel the surrounding coral reefs, take a cruise from island to island.
