Overview

With V8s going the way of the dodo bird, there isn't anything else quite like this large Lexus Sedan available on the market. The Lexus GS F is powerful and thirsty but incredibly fun to drive, making it a unique proposition.

Engine and performance

Lexus has placed a 5-0 Litre V8 power plant in the front of the GS F, producing 351Kw and 530Nm of torque. Reviewers across the board were impressed with the responsiveness of the car and the linear fashion in which it accelerates.

Thanks to its "bulk buying power", OnlineAuto.com.au is able to help you buy the car you want and potentially save you money too.
Promoted
Between the 8-speed automatic gearbox and the large V8, you are looking at a powerful Lexus that launches hard off the line and doesn’t just turn in to a cloud of smoke. The driving mode changes how gently the gearbox shifts from one gear to the next. In economy, you can expect gentle shifts like you would in any sedan, while at the other end of the spectrum, Sports+ introduces harsher shifts as the V8 roars to life. While Sports+ was the favourite mode, it isn’t recommended for everyday driving.

Despite the Lexus Atkinson-cycle/Otto-cycle, which effectively adjusts the engine capacity as you drive, it was reported that the engine could still consume up to 13L/100km. Reviewers with heavier feet saw around 16L per 100km driven.

Handling

Reviewers were content with the GS F’s handling. The ride was unnecessarily firm in certain driving modes but the addition of adaptive suspension was seen as a good step forward.

There’s no hiding the fact that the Lexus GS F is big and heavy, but it’s noted that the steering is well-weighted and responsive for its size and weight.

Reviewers reported that it felt like the car wanted to step out through the corners of the track when putting the power down. This isn’t an issue when driving on public roads, but by all accounts, everyone had a ball.

Interior and other features

Reviewers were of the opinion that this is one of Lexus’s better interiors. Well constructed and roomy, the interior can be best summed up as “lavish”.

The designers at Lexus have done a good job of implementing a large 12.3-inch touchscreen, but most found it difficult to use. Reviewers found that for the price, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities should be available. Despite this, it was reported that the stereo system (Mark Levinson for those in the know) provided great sound.

If you are sitting in the back you may need to lose a few inches, though. While legroom was reported as good and better than competitors, it’s still a bit tight. One reviewer noted that rear passengers will also have obscured vision due to the front sports seats.

Verdict

Fast and fun to drive, the Lexus GS F is a unique proposition. If you like rear-wheel drive V8s that can be driven sensibly on the streets and sideways on the tracks, you should consider the Lexus GS F.

V8s may not be around for much longer. This could be your last chance to own a performance sedan unlike any other.
