How much does car insurance cost for celebs? Let’s see

We researched the likely insurance costs for 8 famous petrol heads.

Car insurance is rarely cheap, but have you ever wondered what it'd cost to insure the stars?

After crunching the numbers for 8 celebs and their favourite whips, we can confirm: it's very expensive.

Here's a rundown of the highest insurance prices we found.

8. Eric Bana

Eric Bana ProschePictured: 1955 Porsche 356 Speedster.
Value: Around $450,000.

Insurance cost for 3 cars: $19,386.24

The 54-year-old Australian actor loves to race cars and has a bunch of classic cars in his collection. We picked out 3 of these, the cheapest of which to insure was a 1976 Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera.

But at $4.5k, Melbourne-born Bana would still pay about 3 times more than the average Victorian does ($1,487) for their cover.

7. Kendall Jenner

Value: Around $155,000

Insurance cost for 3 cars: $21,144.10

Reality star and vintage car fan Jenner would – at 27 – start to benefit from insurers seeing her as less risky versus a younger driver. Interestingly, we couldn't get quotes online for Kendall's younger sister Kylie (who's 25).

That said, classic cars aren't super reliable, and it's harder to source replacement parts. So, it's understandable that insurance would be pricey for Kendall's 1960 Cadillac Eldorado.

6. Jerry Seinfeld

Value: Around $1.45 million

Insurance cost for 3 cars: $26,257.38

The veteran comic owns an eye-wateringly expensive Lambo. This was his most expensive car to insure, followed by a Ferrari 365 GTB and an Aston Martin DB5.

The Seinfeld creator is worth more than $1 billion, which should help soften the insurance blows...

5. Daniel Ricciardo

Daniel Ricciardo PorschePictured: 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Value: Around $275,000

Insurance cost for 3 cars: $32,234.62

Pricing was a mixed bag for Daniel Ricciardo. At $24,553.73, the 33-year-old F1 star's Porsche 911 was the most expensive quote we found. Yet 2 other cars were far cheaper to insure.

As a male, Ricciardo is statistically at a higher risk of having an accident. This is passed on in the form of higher premiums. Finder research found young men pay around 15% more than young women for their cover.

Needless to say, this doesn't factor in the Red Bull driver's considerable skills behind the wheel.

4. Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman Range RoverPictured: 2019 Land Rover Range Rover Vogue
Value: Around $200,000.

Insurance cost for 3 cars: $35,561.05

It's fair to say this legendary Aussie actress is a big fan of luxury vehicles: from powerful sports cars to high-end SUVs. We found the latter would cost the 55-year-old the most to insure.

Kidman's Range Rover Vogue could set her back $13,481.92 annually. An Audi A8 and a BMW 7-Series were also north of $10k.

3. Chris Hemsworth

Chris Hemsworth AudiPictured: Audi R8 V10
Value: Around $175,000

Insurance cost for 3 cars: $35,089.53

Thor actor Chris Hemworth is another lover of high-performance cars. Generally, the bigger your car's engine, the more you can expect to pay for insurance. And there are few more powerful than the high-revving Audi R8 V10.

It'd cost the former Home and Away star $22,072.17 for a year's coverage – right up there with our most expensive quotes.

2. Jay Leno

Jay Leno MaseratiPictured: 1962 Maserati 3500 GTi
Value: Around $550,000

Insurance cost for 3 cars: $41,383.83

At 72, Jay Leno is the oldest celeb we sourced pricing for. Car insurance gets more expensive over the age of 60. In general, senior drivers are more likely to have an accident due to things like worsening eyesight and hearing.

Leno's advancing years – plus an attractive mix of powerful and vintage models in his 180-car collection – help explain why the TV presenter and comedian might face higher insurance costs.

1. Dwayne Johnson (The Rock)

The Rock Rolls RoycePictured: Rolls Royce Cullinan
Value: Around $700,000

Insurance cost for 3 cars: $64,365.16

It'd cost the average Australian more than they earn in a year to get cover for 3 cars in The Rock's ultra-luxury collection.

Which leaves us wondering: how much would it be to cover Rock's "fifty Bentleys in the West Indies"?

How we sourced these quotes

In total, we requested 65 quotes from Enthusiast, a specialist car insurer based in Australia.

We researched some of the best-known models owned by each celebrity and presented the 3 most expensive quotes collectively – ranked from least to most expensive.

As we quoted with an Australian website, we imagined each celeb lives in Vaucluse, a fancy suburb of Sydney, NSW. For consistency, we said each driver got their licence 18 years after their date of birth.

We assumed no multi-car discounts apply. Some other factors that'd influence the cost of car insurance weren't considered, for example, personal driving history. We also answered "no" to vehicle modifications. These would likely increase costs even more!
