People’s Choice Credit Union car insurance excess

When you make a claim on your People’s Choice car insurance policy, you will usually be asked to pay an excess to contribute towards the cost of your claim. There are four excesses that may apply:

  • Basic excess. The basic excess amount varies according to the make and model of your vehicle and the state or territory in which you live.
  • Age excess. This excess is payable when the person driving your car is less than 25 years of age.
  • Inexperienced driver’s excess. If the driver of your vehicle is 25 years or older and has not held a driver’s licence for the two consecutive years before the claim occurs, you will need to pay this excess.
  • Additional excess. This excess applies when the insurer has agreed to cover your vehicle or a specific driver under special terms.

In addition, if you have selected a Nominated Driver policy or a Nominated Driver Low Kilometre policy, and your vehicle is being driven by someone under 25 years of age who is not a nominated driver, the basic excess amount will be doubled. In cases where the inexperienced driver’s excess applies, it will also be doubled.

  • Choose a Nominated Driver Low Kilometre policy. You can further reduce your premiums if your vehicle will travel less than 10,000km in a year.
  • Discounts for Club 55 Account holders. People who hold a Club 55 Transaction Account with People’s Choice Credit Union can enjoy premium discounts.
