About French Open 2022
The French Open, or Roland-Garros, is currently being held for the 126th time in Paris. It is the second Grand Slam event of the year, and the only one to be held on clay courts.
On the men's side, the event has been dominated by Rafael Nadal in recent history. Widely considered the greatest clay court player ever, he has won the event a staggering 13 times since 2005. Early tomorrow morning for Australian viewers, he will face the only man to defeat him multiple times in Paris, Novak Djokovic. Djokovic defeated Nadal in the semi-finals of the event last year, and went on to claim his second French Open crown.
The women's side of the event has seen an impressive run from world number 1 and 2020 champion Iga ÅšwiÄ…tek. She will face eleventh seed Jessica Peluga in her quarter-final. Other contenders include teenage sensations Coco Guaff and Leylah Fernandez.
