Face mask regulations change frequently; check out the latest rules across Australia. Masks are compulsory on flights and at airports. Even when masks aren't mandatory, they help reduce transmission and protect the vulnerable.
Now widely available in Australia, disposable face masks have become a popular option for covering up amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you're looking for a disposable mask that's a little more exciting than the usual blue or white variations, we've rounded up a list of stores that now stock pink options below.
A face mask will not make you immune to COVID-19, but it can stop particles that are released when you cough or sneeze from travelling too far in the air. According to ABC health reporter Olivia Willis, "COVID-19 is mostly spread via respiratory droplets… face masks can help to catch some of these fluid splashes."
Face masks are also a great reminder to stop touching your face, which the World Health Organization has said is important in preventing the transfer of the virus from surfaces to your nose, eyes or mouth.
Face masks will not stop you from contracting the virus and you should continue to adhere to personal hygiene and social distancing recommendations even when wearing one.
According to the World Health Organization, your mask should cover your nose and mouth with no gaps around the sides of your face. You should also wash or sanitise your hands before and after touching your mask.
When wearing your mask, avoid touching it or taking it off to speak to others. Once you remove your mask, it is advised that you place it in a zip lock bag until you are able to wash it, which you should do after each wear.
