Where to buy Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2 in Australia: From $509.99

Find out how you can step into the world of virtual reality with two of the finest headsets on the market.

Looking to buy a Meta Quest 2 or Meta Quest Pro VR headset? You're in the right place.

Virtual reality (VR) is all the rage as technological advancements make the possibilities of the format all the more enticing. If you're keen to dive into the world of VR, there's no better place to start than with the Meta Quest range, formerly known as the Oculus Quest.

The Oculus Quest 2 is our best overall VR headset in Australia thanks to its all-in-1 nature, great resolution and comfortable design. Meta has some big plans for the world of virtual reality, so now's a great time to get in on the fun.

The just-released Meta Quest Pro adds augmented reality to the mix. This is a form of virtual reality in which digital elements are superimposed into your real-world surroundings. (If you've ever played Pokemon GO, you will have a vague idea of how this concept works.)

Whichever model you plump for, one of the best places to buy is Amazon's official Meta store. With complete models starting at $509.99, it currently has the most competitive prices in Australia.

Here are the best storefronts to buy the Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 2. (If you're not sure whether this device is right for you, see how is compares to the HTC Vive Pro 2.)

About Meta Quest 2

The Oculus Quest 2 was released in 2020. It was rebranded as the Meta Quest 2 when Oculus was acquired by Meta, which was formerly known as Facebook. The device allows you to enjoy a variety of VR experiences, including games that can be downloaded from the Oculus Store.

You can link the device to your PC, either with the Meta Quest Link cable or over Wi-Fi. Then you can access more processor-heavy games from stores like Steam.

About the Metaverse

If you thought the Meta Quest 2 was a gimmicky glorified games console, think again. Meta has big plans for the headset and its role in the Metaverse. Put simply, the Metaverse is set as a large simulated universe to be entered via the Meta Quest 2 and other AR/VR headsets that Facebook has in the works.

If everything goes to plan, you'll one day use the Metaverse for shopping, entertainment, socialising and more. The concept is still nascent, but it's a rather compelling draw for the Oculus Quest 2.

Meta Quest Pro

As its name suggests, the Meta Quest Pro is an advanced version of the Quest 2 aimed at enthusiasts and creative professionals. The Meta Quest Pro focusses on mixed reality, a form of virtual reality in which digital elements are superimposed onto a real-life camera feed.

Meta believes the headset will prove to be a paradigm-shifter in the realms like work, socialising, shopping and more. It takes advantage of "pancake optics" to deliver visual performance that vastly outstrips the Quest 2 as well as a slimmer, more ergonomic design.

The Meta Quest Pro carries a RRP of $1,729.99 which is a massive hike over the Meta Quest 2's starting cost of $509.99. On the plus side, it was originally priced at $2,499.99 so be thankful for small mercies.

Meta Quest 3: Release date and pricing

Picture not described

Fresh off the heels of the Meta Quest Pro, a third iteration of the Quest headset has already been announced.

Meta has confirmed the Meta Quest 3 will be hitting stores in the American autumn, so expect to see it sometime between September and November.

According to Meta's marketing blitzkrieg, the new headset will be 40% slimmer than the Quest 2 with higher resolution displays for sharper visuals. This is made possible by the Snapdragon XR2 chipset which provides double the processing power. The Quest 3 will also feature full-colour mixed reality similar to the Pro model.

In addition to the headset, the controllers have been completely redesigned and now include haptic feedback to further immerse you in 3D worlds.

The Meta Quest 3 is set to continue Meta's line of consumer-focussed headsets, so a more tolerable price tag can be expected. Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg has previously hinted that the device will carry a RRP in the USD$300-$500 range.

That means Australian customers can expect to pay anywhere from $440-$734, plus any bonus fees the company wants to impose on antipodean consumers.
