Alternatives to face masks
From mid-October, face mask alternatives will no longer be considered acceptable in Victoria. New government ruling states that residents must wear a fitted face mask to avoid getting fined.
New Victorian face mask ruling
While a fine will apply for those who do not follow the new government mandate, some exceptions will apply.
According to the Victorian State Government Health and Human Services site, exceptions will be granted for "those who have a medical reason, kids under 12 years of age, those who have a professional reason or if it's just not practical, like when running – however you will still be expected to carry your face covering at all times to wear when you can".
Remember that wearing a face mask will not make you immune from COVID-19 and that personal hygiene and social distancing rules should still be adhered to.

While face masks are not currently mandatory in New South Wales, the New South Wales government is now asking residents to "consider using masks in situations where you are unable to social distance".
