M1 vs M2 chip
So what are you missing out on by opting for an M1 MacBook rather than waiting for the newer models? Apple claims that the M2 will feature an 18% faster CPU, 35% faster GPU (partially thanks to 2 extra cores) and a 40% faster neural engine than the M1.
Another key focus on the M2 is energy efficiency. According to Apple, the M2 CPU offers nearly twice the performance at the same power level compared to the latest 10-core PC laptop chip.
The M2 chip is also set to support 24GB of RAM, as opposed to the 16GB supported by the base M1. All in all, if Apple can deliver on these promises, we should be looking at a very impressive piece of silicone, especially given the price point.
But let's be honest, for many consumers, all this power is a little bit superfluous. If your laptop usage doesn't demand peak performance, you'd be well advised to stick with a discounted M1 MacBook.
