How long do car batteries last?

On average a car battery can last around five years. How often you'll have to change the battery is dependent on your driving habits and climate. Cooler environments will allow for a longer running battery as opposed to warmer temperatures. It is recommended that a car battery is changed every three years or so.

How do you tell if a car battery is dead?

There's a few things to look out for when it comes to a dead battery. These include your dome light not turning on when you open the door, headlights or radio not working and not being able to start the car when the ignition key is turned.

How do you dispose of a car battery?

As they can be toxic to the environment and a high percentage of a car battery can be recycled, we don't suggest you just throw them away. The best way to dispose of your batteries is by contacting your local council for pickup.

If you reside in NSW, then feel free to drop your old car battery to your local NRMA service centres. They'll take it off your hands and recycle the components for reuse in new batteries.
