Cancellation and amendment fees
  • Covers you for travel and accommodation fees should you cancel your trip due to unforeseen reasons. You will be compensated for:
    • travel and accommodation expenses, as well as prepaid meal expenses
    • the cost of paid visas

Overseas medical and hospital fees
  • Should you become ill while outside Australia, this policy covers:

Cutting your trip short
  • Should you need to cut your trip short due to illness or injury to you or a travelling companion, serious damage to your home or business back home, you will be covered for:

    • any additional expenses and the costs associated with the resumption of your journey.
Travel delay expenses
  • Should your trip be delayed due to poor weather conditions, mechanical breakdown of an aircraft or sea vessel or industrial action, your travel insurance policy will pay you a benefit to cater for the delay as long as you eventually continue with your trip.
Luggage and personal effects
  • You are covered for items you carry with you on your trip for personal or individual needs including:
    • lost, damaged or stolen contact lenses, artificial limbs, glasses and hearing aids
    • up to $500 for lost or stolen items left in an unattended motor vehicle
    • up to $4000 for items specified under optional additional specified items cover
    • baggage delayed by an airline or transport company for more than 24 hours
    • cost of replacing your lost or stolen passport, Visa, travellers cheques or credit cards
    • cost of replacing stolen or lost personal money during your trip.
Personal accident
  • Benefits for an injury that within 12 consecutive months results in:
    • death of the policyholder aged 18 years to 65 years
    • death of a dependent child or insured person under 18 years of age
    • death of an insured person aged 66 years and above
    • permanent Paraplegia or Quadriplegia, total or partial loss of sight, or loss of use of one or both limbs.
Personal liability
  • Cover for the total amount incurred during your trip should you:
    • injuring someone
    • damage or lose someone else’s property.
Rental vehicle insurance excess
  • Cover for any Rental Vehicle insurance excess you are liable for due to:
    • damage to a rental vehicle whilst in your control
    • theft of a rental vehicle whilst on your trip.
Alternative transport expenses
  • Cover for additional travel expenses to attend a planned wedding, funeral, sporting event or any other pre-paid event should your scheduled transportation get cancelled, delayed or diverted during your trip.
  • Your policy includes a specified pay-out should the airplane / sea vessel you are travelling in gets hijacked for a period of more than 24 hours during your overseas trip.
Pet care
  • Cover for any extra kennel or cattery fees should your final flight back to Australia get delayed for more than 24 hours due to bad weather, mechanical breakdowns or a strike.

General exclusions

    • You are not covered for medical conditions that you knew could lead to a claim while taking out the policy or you are travelling against the advice of your medical practitioner.
    • Medical cover does not cover claims if the insured has suffered from, in the past five years, conditions such as:
      • Any heart-related, blood circulatory or diabetic condition
      • Neurological or breathing conditions
      • Psychiatric or psychological condition.
    • Cancellation and amendment fees are not covered if the insured does not travel as a result of an uninsured travelling companion:
      • Needing surgery, inpatient treatment or hospital consultations
      • Needing any treatment or prescription medication
      • Is diagnosed with a terminal disease or is on a waiting list for surgery, treatment or medical tests
    • No cover for claims arising from your suicide or attempted suicide, putting yourself in danger or deliberate self harm.
    • Claims arising from events such as war, civil war, revolutions and usurpation of government, riots, industrial action and strikes are not covered.
    • You are not covered for travel to or through a country where a travel advisory notice has been issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs.
    • No cover for claims arising from your involvement in any illegal or criminal act.
    • Travel expenses incurred due to you knowingly making travel arrangements through an unlicensed travel agent are not covered. There is also no cover if your tour is cancelled or delayed due to insufficient numbers.

General conditions of Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance

The following general conditions apply under Budget Direct Annual Multi-Trip Travel Insurance:

      • You must disclose all information that may affect the insurer’s decision to accept your insurance application e.g. if you plan to engage in a dangerous activity while on your trip.
      • As the policyholder, you must take all reasonable steps to avoid or mitigate loss before you can make a claim under this policy.
      • Documents to support your claim must be provided to the claims departments e.g. if you cancelled your trip due to medical reasons, be sure to provide a medical certificate from your doctor to support your claim.
      • Making a fraudulent claim will result in your policy being cancelled and you having to repay any benefits already paid to you in full. You may also have to forfeit any paid premiums.
      • Policyholders are required to agree to a medical examination of so requested by the insurer.
      • In case you require emergency hospitalisation in Australia, you must contact Budget Direct as soon as possible so that approval is obtained and arrangements made in time.
      • Cover for loss or liability that it is covered by any other insurance policy, medical scheme or Act of Parliament is not provided.
      • Full disclosure of any changes that occur from the date you take up the policy to the time of your trip is required. The insurer has to be informed of:
        • New treatment or prescribed medication
        • Changes to your treatment or prescribed medications
        • Any new sickness, condition, illness and injuries that needed medical attention.
