Braintree Extend will offer more advanced payment solutions to e-commerce merchants.

PayPal owned payments service Braintree has today announced the launch of its latest payments solution Braintree Extend. Braintree already provides payment solutions to online merchants, and its latest offering, Braintree Extend, facilitates deeper partnerships through transaction services, rewards and loyalty programs, and contextual commerce.

The transaction services offered through Braintree Extend are centred around data security. The payment solution processes the transactions in the background, while simultaneously minimising fraud by seamlessly connecting merchants with their fraud detection partners.

Braintree Extend also helps drive engagement from customers through its rewards and loyalty solutions. For example, online merchants may already partner with third-party rewards and cashback companies to increase customer loyalty and drive repeat business. Now, these merchants can use Braintree Extend to help facilitate these partnerships more effectively by securely sharing their users' card details with third-parties via the service. This means that customers' bank details are safely tracked, helping to manage these partnerships with loyalty and cashback services.

Contextual commerce refers to the ability for consumers to purchase goods and services directly through the platform they initially discover it. For example, there are lots of comparison sites and aggregators that seek out and pool a bunch of products together for the user. However the user has to click through the site to the product's home site to complete the payment process. Braintree Extend allows these online aggregator sites to offer their customers an end-to-end solution, without the need to send them away to complete their payment.

As an example of contextual commerce in action, popular flight aggregator Skyscanner has created its direct booking platform by leveraging Braintree Extend. As such, Skyscanner hosts the entire booking and checkout process by securely connecting with its partner airlines.
