Beauty product of the week: Bondi Sands Sunscreen Oil SPF30

SUNSCREEN OIL LEAD INSTA

Keep your skin safe and non-greasy this summer.

Why we love this product

I often like to joke that my skin is so pale that I'm practically translucent, but the jokes all fall to the wayside whenever it comes time for me to actually emerge into the sunshine. My heritage is part Italian, part English/Welsh, so although I never tend to freckle, I certainly do burn if I'm not careful.

As a result, I always tended to use heavy duty sunscreens that felt more like wearing an extra layer of clothing. However, since trying the Bondi Sands Sunscreen Oil, I'm definitely a convert.

You wouldn't necessarily expect an oil to be as effective as its lotion counterpart when it comes to sun protection, especially given the reputation for oils speeding up the tanning process, but I can safely say that it did the job. My test for this sunscreen was sitting out in the sun at the cricket for a total of five hours without burning (a difficult feat for any sunscreen to achieve), and I'm pleased to say that it actually worked.

After two hours in direct sunlight, my skin felt warm but I didn't get that telltale sting of impending sunburn. I reapplied, and a few more hours later I returned home mentally preparing to see a tomato-coloured face and décolletage. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to see that I'd remained as pale as ever.

The Bondi Sands Sunscreen Oil is water resistant for up to two hours and doesn't have that greasy feeling that so many other sunscreens do. You feel lighter and moisturised, and frankly, if it can keep my Casper the Friendly Ghost skin in check, it can manage anyone's skin.

The formula goes on easily from a spray bottle, and the little residue it leaves on the skin once rubbed in gives you a subtle shine. It definitely feels like you're just spraying on a bit of body glimmer for summer, but it's definitely got more to offer. Plus, I'm obsessed with all things coconut and the smell is honestly amazing.

Don't forget, as with all sunscreens, it's vital that you reapply every few hours in order to maintain protection, and to pay close attention to how your skin feels throughout your exposure to the sun.

Affordability

You can purchase a full size 150mL Bondi Sands Sunscreen Oil SPF30 for $16.99, which is pretty affordable when you consider the amount you require. The spray nozzle disperses just the right amount so you don't feel smothered (or conversely, exposed).

Where you can get it

You can pop into your local Priceline to get your hands on a bottle, as well as purchasing directly from the Bondi Sands website or online at Princess Polly – though you'll want to get it soon, as it sells out quickly.
