What is Boba Network?

BOBA is the native cryptocurrency of the Boba Network. Launched in 2018, the Boba Network is a layer-2 scaling solution for the Ethereum blockchain. The network utilises optimistic rollup technology to move transactions away from the heavily congested Ethereum network. As a result, the network offers increased transaction speed and lower transaction costs.

Building on the open-source work of Optimism, a competing layer-2 scaling solution, the Boba research and development team has combined optimistic rollups with swap-based onramps, fast exits and cross-chain bridging. Through this combination, the protocol can enhance transaction throughput, reduce fees and improve the smart-contract capabilities of the Ethereum blockchain. According to Boba Network's documentation, the protocol allows users to affordably launch non-fungible tokens (NFTs) natively on its network and features an NFT bridge that enables users to transfer NFTs from Boba to Ethereum (or other Ethereum-compatible chains) and vice versa. The Boba team chose Optimism as the foundational infrastructure for its network due to its superior Ethereum-Virtual-Machine (EVM) and Solidity compatibility. BOBA is the governance token of the Boba protocol. All BOBA token holders can help to shape the network’s future, with one token equal to one vote. To become eligible for voting rights, token holders must stake the token within the Boba Network. In addition to voting rights, staked tokens receive a percentage of all transaction fees collected by the Boba network.
