Beauty product of the week: Blessed by Nature retoning facial scrub
This affordable scrub minimises all your imperfections without drying your skin.
Why we love this product
Natural brand, Blessed by Nature has been the surprise skincare winner of 2018, in my opinion. As someone who normally favours luxury skincare products with obscene pricetags, I've been truly surprised at how much I've loved the products created by this affordable, drug-store brand. I've previously reviewed the Blessed by Nature clay mask, which in my opinion is far superior to many of those Instagram-famous clay masks you may see around. Now, I'm talking about the brand's scrub.
I love a good exfoliating scrub and I've tried dozens. There are plenty of decent scrubs out there that offer good results but the Blessed by Nature Retoning Facial Scrub has to be one of my favourites.
This product is formulated with sunflower, aloe, geranium, calendula, walnut shell and green tea. Calendula is a favourite ingredient of mine. This botanical is known for its soothing properties and is an ingredient you'll often see in products designed to treat dermatitis, psoriasis, cuts and wounds. It's an underused ingredient and I was pleasantly surprised to see it used here.
The scrub itself is a dark butterscotch colour and has a silky texture. I use it directly after cleansing. It foams up only slightly, allowing you to spread the scrub all over your face – drier scrub products that lack a bit of lather, won't spread and you have to use three times the amount of product to cover your face. It has a lovely, gentle smell and an equally gentle abrasive quality. In my teen years, I loved an aggressive, rough scrub. But these days, I appreciate something softer that removes dead skin without stripping my skin of its moisture.
After washing this scrub off, I can immediately feel with my fingers that lots of the small lumps and bumps on my skin are gone. But my skin doesn't feel dried out or scratched. Once I dry my face I can see my skin looks smooth and bright. The product directions specify that this should be used once a week but I use it every three days because I have oily skin.

I especially love to use this product if I'm having a breakout. The abrasive walnut shell rubs away any excess dirt and oil and the green tea and calendula have anti-inflammatory properties to help minimise and heal any spots. Finally, the aloe is nourishing and soothing, ensuring your skin stays plump and moisturised. Next to the Blessed by Nature clay mask, it's one of the most effective products at combating my breakouts.
If you're on the market for a new scrub, definitely give this product a try. I really love it and I think many others will too.
Affordability
At $12.99 for a 125ml tube this scrub is totally affordable. I've been using it three times a week for two months and I'm around a third of the way down.
