Expedia is the place to go on Black Friday to secure some of the best travel deals for your next adventure.
The 2021 deals haven't been announced yet, but if last year's sale is anything to go by, we're expecting something big. In 2020, the one-stop shop was offering up to 30% off selected stays across Australia – destinations included Sydney, Hobart, the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Adelaide.
How do this year's Expedia Black Friday deals compare to previous years?
The 2021 sales aren't available yet, but Expedia's sales are usually pretty tempting. In 2020, there were deals for 30%–50% off domestic stays on the table.
But compared to 2019, 2020's offerings weren't quite as strong. Expedia was then offering up to 75% off accommodation if you downloaded the app. We specifically saw the following come through:
- Early Bird Sale: Download the Expedia app for the chance to score one of the limited app-only discount codes that will save you up to 75% off hotels.
- 60% off hotels
- Up to 25% off activities and experiences
How to get the best Expedia Black Friday deal
Here are some tips we have based on past experience with Expedia sales:
- Be flexible with your dates. If you're booking a room, you're more likely to get the best price during the week, rather than over the peak which is Friday to Sunday. Resort areas such as ski fields and beaches are more likely to offer better dates mid-week too, when fewer leisure travellers are booking stays.
- Avoid big chains. Usually during sales events, major hotel brands (like Hilton, Marriott and Sheraton) are excluded. Instead, look to independent and boutique hotels for the biggest savings. You may just stumble across a new favourite place to stay.
