Lego man

Get Harry Potter, Star Wars, Friends and more on sale this Black Friday.

Let's be brutally honest for a moment. Building up a kick-ass LEGO collection is an expensive proposition. It doesn't matter if you're into LEGO Friends, Star Wars, City or the seemingly hundreds of other themed sets available, this Danish plastic is rarely fantastic in the price department.

That said, the 2019 Black Friday sales shatter that barrier for entry, just like the accidentally dropped LEGO Death Star that this writer still suffers PTSD over. Follow our instruction manual below for the most heavily discounted brickfests we could find.

Black Friday LEGO set deals

Here are the pick-of-the-pile Black Friday deals that have clicked with us so far:

  • Here's one for fans of Disney+'s The Mandalorian. Score this LEGO Star Wars AT-ST Raider (75254) for $53 from Target (usually $99.99) and you'll get the sweet vehicle and a Mando minifig. Now all you need is a Baby Yoda plushie. Assuming you haven't already ordered six of them. Like me.
  • More grounded, real-world-focused master builders will love this LEGO Creator Parisian Restaurant (10243). This is one of the best offerings from the Modular series and can be snapped up at Target for $149. That's a damn sight better than the $249 RRP you'll see it going for elsewhere.
  • Here it is, folks. The big boy. A worthy centrepiece for any LEGO connoisseurs' collection: the LEGO Star Wars Death Star (75159). Ordinarily retailing for $799, this small moon's worth of plastic and adventure can be yours from Target for $639. Who are you to resist the pull of its tractor beam?
  • Anybody looking for something more than brick stacking ought to nab a LEGO Star Wars Droid Commander (75253) from Target for $279.30 (down from $349). This is a build, code and play toy that lets you control your very own R2-D2 via a free app. Basically, it's edutainment for the young and young-at-heart.
  • Metropolis builders should speak with the zoning officials in their house, because it's time to make way for this super cheap LEGO City Town Ski Resort (60203). This winter wonderland normally goes for $110, but Target has melted that down to $88. If only all stylish 2-level chateaus came at that price.
  • Harry Potter fans need to get on board with this deal: the LEGO Hogwarts Express (75955) is going for $109 instead of $139 at Target. This set features Harry, Ron, Hermione, the train and a Platform 9¾ brick wall. Note: slamming your minifigs through the latter won't achieve the desired effect. We tried.
  • And now for something completely different. Big W is offering the LEGO Friends Friendship Box (41346) for $49 instead of $79. This great little set allows you (and a friend, apparently) to build 5 different life-sized accessories, like a microphone, a camera, a trophy, walkie-talkies and a robot. It's all-round good role-playing fun.
