Yes, Birkenstock has created an all natural skincare line
Read on to see where you can buy it and why we think it's worthwhile.
We all know the name Birkenstock thanks to the brand's famous ergonomic slides and sandals, which have seen a fashion resurgence of late. High-end stores such as Green With Envy now stock them and bloggers such as Friend in Fashion wear them.
But now, Birkenstock is taking a step outside the world of fashion and into beauty. The brand has officially announced that it will be launching a natural skincare line.
The 28-piece skincare range has been created in line with Birkenstocks company ideals; it's sustainable and is certified natural. And just like Birkenstock's famous shoes, the special ingredient in the skincare range is cork. Yep, you heard right. Suberin, a cork oak extract is the key anti-ageing ingredient in the products.
Birkenstock CEO, Oliver Reichert said to WWD: “While we were doing our research regarding a healthy product concept in the skin care segment, we realised that scientists in the cosmetics industry had discovered the highly effective anti-aging effect of suberin, a remarkable substance which is contained in cork oak extract."
“That’s how the whole project started. We then took our time in terms of developing the whole natural cosmetics range, with product quality coming first at all times with a team of experienced experts.”
The line is called Birkenstock Natural Care and includes cleansers, lip products, moisturising products and more. There will also be three products in the line for men and male grooming.
From what we've heard so far, pricing will sit between $17 and $74, putting the product in the premium but not unobtainable range.
We're yet to see any details of stockists or release dates, but we're sure that tonnes of stores will be dying to stock this new range.
We'll update with more details as they become available.
