What you can and can’t stream on Kayo: Cricket Australia, La Liga and more

The new sports streaming service Kayo has over 50 sports to stream, but what are the most popular sports available on the platform?

The new sports streaming service from the folks at Fox Sports is kicking goals when it comes to accessibility and pricing. At $25 to $35 per month, Kayo is easily the most affordable way for Australians to live stream their favourite sports. While the buffet of codes and leagues on offer is expansive, there are still a few key sports (like the UEFA Champions League) that other services still have exclusive rights to.

We've taken a look at the sports in Australia with the biggest spectatorship and attendances between 2016 and 2018 and checked out whether or not you can stream them on Kayo Sports.

1. AFL

The Australian Football League (AFL) easily sees the biggest attendances and viewership of any sport in Australia. Recent numbers from the attendance stats website Austadiums suggest an average of 36,682 punters caught the action live when their favourite teams performed across 2018. All up, it's estimated that there were 7,593,224 attendees across the entire year, which is leagues ahead of any other code in Australia.

So, which AFL games will you be able to catch on Kayo when the 2019 season rolls around?

2. Cricket Australia

Next up is cricket. The 2017/18 Cricket Australia season saw an average of 29,797 fans per match across international cricket, BBL and WBBL, with an estimated total of 2,264,565 attendees over the entire period.

With the cricket season in full swing at the time of writing, this is going to be a big drawcard for Kayo, but which matches will the new service live stream?

3. Rugby union

While New South Wales and Victoria might be divided on rugby league and AFL, rugby union is more or less a nationally treasured code. Over the course of 2018, rugby union matches managed to attract an average of 15,665 attendees per match with an estimated total of 657,942 fans watching the action live in 2018.

While Kayo has its fair share of rugby union action, it won't all be available live on the service. Here's what will be streaming live and what won't be shown on Kayo at all:

4. Rugby league

After a huge drop in attendance after 2014, the NRL has been slowly making its way back to form over the last 4 years. While not as epic at 2014's huge turnout of 3,901,591 fans over the year, 2018 saw a total of 3,631,592 fans following the action live (the biggest turnout since 2014).

While the NRL's attendance numbers may have taken a bit of a knock, those numbers are still nothing to scoff at. The fan base is still as passionate as ever and with the arrival of Kayo, live streaming the action in HD just became a lot easier.

Here's what Kayo will be streaming in 2019 and what's missing:

5. Football

While football sits quite low on this list, it's no secret that, internationally, football is the most watched sport in the world. So while stadium attendances in Australia might be low in comparison (603,707 in total with a 7,453 average), there's still a huge following of football fans in Australia looking for international live streams.

Football broadcast rights in Australia are extremely contentious with SBS, Foxtel, Optus and now Kayo all wanting a piece of the action. If you're looking for where you can stream every football league in the world, we've got a complete list of broadcasters but for the sake of this article, let's discuss what Kayo has access to.
