What is Beta Finance?
BETA is the native cryptocurrency token of Beta Finance, a decentralised money market protocol situated within the decentralised finance (DeFi) ecosystem. According to the protocol's website, Beta Finance's main aim is to reduce the volatility that comes with the cryptocurrency markets and offer stability for investors that are looking to lend, borrow and short sell. Built on top of the Ethereum blockchain, it hopes to take DeFi towards mainstream adoption. Alongside lending and borrowing, the protocol is known for its “1 click short tool”. This feature allows investors to open short positions on a range of different cryptocurrency assets with just 1 click, which can help investors hedge positions. The Beta Finance protocol borrows the token that you are trying to short and swaps it to your collateral token. The original collateral and the “borrowed” collateral is then swapped to the token that is being shorted. Users can also create a money market for any cryptocurrency they wish to. The BETA token is integral to the Beta Finance ecosystem. BETA token holders can stake tokens within the protocol to offer a backstop in case of liquidation events. In return for taking on this risk, BETA stakers are rewarded with a share of all transaction fees. The protocol also offers a liquidity mining program where liquidity providers are rewarded with BETA for providing liquidity to the protocol. The BETA token also holds governance rights within the Beta Finance ecosystem. Holders can utilise the token to vote on a range of different proposals and development plans, allowing BETA holders to steer the direction of the platform.
