Best for charm: The Wattle Park Chalet

Nothing says fairy-tale wedding than a private enchanted garden shielded by forest on one side and a tudor-style heritage mansion on the other.

One of Melbourne's most popular wedding spots, Wattle Park Chalet can accommodate weddings of most sizes. It can hold up to 250 of your closest friends and family and offers ample parking, making this a convenient yet magical location for your big day.

  • Standouts: Charming tudor-style building, convenient for guests
  • Considerations: Small dance floor, surrounding parkland not maintained regularly

Best for views: Poet's Lane

If it's awesome photos you're after, then you should definitely give Poet's Lane a look. Only 50 minutes from Melbourne, Poet's Lane is a forest sanctuary in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges.

You and your guests will be captivated by the endless beauty of the venue's opulent manicured gardens and the lovely water features that blend seamlessly into the lush natural landscape.

Best of all, there's nothing to worry about once you're there. With plenty of accommodation, neither you nor your guests have to make the 50-minute drive back to Melbourne. Just have everyone shack up in one of Poet's Lane cottages and let the evening linger on forever.

  • Standouts: Exquisite views, on-site accommodation
  • Considerations: 50 minute drive from Melbourne

Best for large groups: Showtime Events Centre

Showtime Events Centre can hold up to 280 guests for a banquet-style reception, and it's as charming as it is large.

The converted dock building sits in the heart of Melbourne's historic docking area right on the edge of the Yara river. The venue harmoniously merges many of the building's original features like the wooden floorboards and wrought iron wall with modern facilities like a custom-designed chandelier bar and laser-cut LED wall panels.

That makes for 280 pleased guests and one happy couple.

  • Standouts: Large yet charming space, convenient location
  • Considerations: Car park a little far from the venue, lighting can be quite dim

Best for accessibility: Melbourne Zoo

The Melbourne Zoo is located only minutes from downtown, making it a convenient location to host your wedding - especially if you have people coming in from everywhere.

But wait a minute...the zoo? That's right. The zoo's stunning natural surroundings offer a selection of ceremony sites and venues. For your reception, you might choose the more subdued Lakeside Bistro room overlooking the award-winning Japanese Garden. Or if you're going for a more dramatic experience, you can choose the Leopard Lodge over near the lions' habitat. That's just two of the Zoo's numerous venues you can choose from.

Plus, if any of your guests get a little too tipsy, they'll just blend right in with the wildlife.

  • Standouts: Great location, lots of choice
  • Considerations: Some animal lovers might be turned off by animals in captivity

Best for your budget: Fitzroy Gardens Conservatory

Melbourne is renowned for its gardens, many of which you can rent for your wedding ceremony. For only $512, you can say your vows at the beautiful Fitzroy Gardens Conservatory as long as you're in and out in 1.5 hours.

Other locations will give you 4 hours for the same $512 but that's an unnecessarily long time for a ceremony (your fees don't include receptions and parties, regardless of how long you're there for).

If you budget your time like you do your wedding, you can easily get more bang for your buck with the Fitzroy Gardens Conservatory.

  • Standouts: Beautiful setting with gardens and fountains.
  • Considerations: You'll have to be quick
