Best time to visit Thredbo for the snow?

The best time to visit Thredbo for snow on a budget is either late June or early September. Being the shoulder season, you'll still get snow but without the "snow-tax" or school holiday crowds.

For perfect snow conditions, visit in July and August. They're the 2 coldest months in Thredbo where overnight temperatures drop below freezing – so there's a good chance you will wake up with fresh powder on the trails. Bear in mind, that it falls right in the middle of the Aussie winter school break and is one of the busiest times on the Australian slopes.

Best time to visit Thredbo for...

  • Snow: July and August often offer the highest snow cover on the mountains.
