- Writer and music enthusiast
Favourite Movie: Almost Famous (IMDB rating: 7.9)
I often believe I was born in the wrong era, and somehow I think watching Almost Famous as a child (and frequently ever since) has a lot to do with it. A classic coming-of-age story in which a teenager and aspiring music journalist flees his home town to join an up-and-coming rock band on tour, Almost Famous drips with wit and 1970s nostalgia. Only available on Presto, the promise of a stellar soundtrack and Penny Lane’s iconic shearling coat is worth the cost alone.
Favourite TV Show: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (IMDB rating: 8.2)
Although 90s television was rife with badass feminist icons, Buffy definitely takes the cake. Destined to fulfil her fate as the slayer, Buffy struggles to live the life of a normal teenage girl by day while battling an assortment of vampires, demons and other hellish creatures by night. With nothing but a wooden stake, some killer kung-fu moves and impeccable one-liners in her arsenal, Buffy and her band of sidekicks save the world time and time again. .
- Confused and bemused about everything
Favourite Movie: Memento (IMDB rating: 8.5)
Written by the Nolan brothers before their wham bam Inception and Batman hits. Memento is a film that runs backwards, but is punctuated by short spurts of a forward-running story from a second undisclosed timeline. Yes, it is awesome as it sounds..
Favourite TV Show: Louie (IMDB rating: 8.7)
Take a walk with stand-up comedian Louie CK in his very own sitcom. It's Seinfeld, but set in the real world: strange, depressing, and occasionally promising.
Favourite Movie: High Fidelity (IMDB rating: 7.6)
Vinyl, sarcasm and John Cusack. A great movie and an even better book. Plus, if you like movies with killer soundtracks, this would have to be up there.
Favourite TV show: The Wire (IMDB rating: 9.4)
If you only watch one show on Presto, it should be The Wire.
- Life is a musical!
Favourite Movie: The Adventures Of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert (IMDB rating: 7.5)
Who wouldn't love an Aussie film about dancing drag queens in the middle of the desert. .
Favourite TV Show: Band of Brothers (IMDB rating: 9.46)
Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks showing the world what you can really do with a TV Series, amazing true story of brotherhood during the worst of times.
Favourite Movie: Thirteen Ghosts (IMDB: 5.5)
I watched this movie when I was too young, and looking back on it now – no matter how ridiculous the characters or unbelievable to plot – it will always stay with me as a truly horrifying movie. Come on – there were THIRTEEN ghosts.
Favorite TV Show: Girls (IMDB: 7.4)
As a 24-year-old writer, I don't think I really need to explain my love for this show. The fact that Amy Schumer made a guest appearance just solidified my ongoing viewership....
Favourite Movie: The Mighty Ducks (IMDB rating: 6.4)
Quack. Quack. Quack. Forget Dawson's Creek, this is the movie that started it for Joshua Jackson and is one of those fun-loving underdog sports flicks (the sport of choice is a peewee ice hockey team FYI) that will make you believe that you too can fly.
Favourite TV Show: Roswell (IMDB rating: 7.5)
This series saw me through many late nights during high school. It moved from prime time to a late-evening time slot within a season which was unfortunate as it was one of those teenage sci-fi dramas that showed so much potential. Like Firefly, it was axed way too soon, making it as far as 3 seasons (including a very abrupt though passable finale), but will forever have its cult fanbase.
- Aliens and robots are my thing
Favourite Movie: The Iron Giant (IMDB rating: 8)
Before he was Groot, Vin Diesel lent his voice to the Iron Giant (alongside Jennifer Aniston and Harry Connick Jr.). This movie makes it all too easy to fall in love with an animated hunk of metal. It's one of the few non-Disney/Pixar cartoon films that I keep going back to whenever I need to restore my faith in humanity (or robots).
Favourite TV Show: The X-Files (IMDB rating: 8.8)
I have a confession to make. I've only recently started watching the X-Files. Shock, horror! Growing up I had two older sisters who controlled the TV so I sat through a lot of Dawson's Creek and 90210. X-Files has been a refreshing change of pace; darker but still light enough to not be too jarring for casual viewers. There's a reason Fox are binging it back for a new season.
Favourite Movie: The Terminator (IMDB rating: 8.1)
The movie that started it all. If you haven't seen The Terminator then sign up for Presto, now. This awesome time travel sci-fi classic about a cyborg sent back in time to kill Sarah Connor is full of action, explosions, car chases and cheesy 80s music.
A Moody Christmas (IMDB rating: 8)
A Moody Christmas is an Australian comedy classic that will instantly strike a chord with anyone who loves spending Christmas with their family. It might hit too close to home sometimes but you're always guaranteed a laugh.
