Local provider Sure is the lone option for prepaid SIMs in Saint Helena.

Reconnected to the rest of world by its first commercial airline flight in October 2017, Saint Helena is a tiny island in the South Atlantic Ocean. It’s part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, measures just 80 square kilometers in area and is home to 4,534 people.

If you are headed to Saint Helena, your phone’s roaming capabilities are unlikely to work at all. Your best bet on getting service and coverage is to invest in a local prepaid SIM card. You can purchase a SIM card with £10 of credit included for £16.50 (AUD$28.21).

Sure is the only telco network provider in Saint Helena. It works on a 2G/GS/EDGE network on 900 MHz and an LTE network on 1800 MHz (band 3). There is no 3G network, so you’ll need a phone that supports LTE band 3 coverage or you’ll be limited to the 2G/GS/EDGE network. Sure offers a pay-as-you-go plan for short-term stays or several monthly packages if you’ll be on the island for a while.

SIM cards can be purchased at the Sure store in Jamestown along with a few other locations. As mentioned above, it costs £16.50 and includes a £10 credit. Its rates for all other services are as follows for the pay-as-you-go plan:
