Quay Hardwire

Best blue light glasses for most people

Quay Hardwire
Image: Supplied/Finder

Pros

  • Heaps of colour options
  • Simple gender-neutral design

Cons

  • Plastic frame
  • Larger size caused some issues for a few customers

Australian eyewear brand Quay offers up an extensive catalogue of blue light glasses in a gamut of colour options. The company's Hardwire model takes the title of the best blue light blocking specs on the market for their more traditional and gender-neutral design.

With a more conventional design than some of Quay's other glasses, the Hardwire is ultra-wearable in every setting. Better yet, the 19 different colour options give you oodles of choice to make your pair match with your personality and style. Quay occasionally releases new colours or runs others out of stock, so if nothing takes your fancy straight away, something you like could be on the way.

The glasses have a middle of the road fit, according to Quay. Contrary to this, some customers mentioned that the glasses fall a little on the larger side, so Quay's Hardwire Mini could be a better pick for those with a smaller head.

You won't find any fancy materials on the Hardwire: they're an entirely plastic affair. Some buyers weren't impressed with the build quality of the frames, saying it felt cheap. Still, for the most part, customers seemed to be impressed with the build quality. Reports of broken or damaged pairs are few and far between in reviews.

Customers on Google gave the Hardwire an overall score of 4.3 out of 5 from more than 140 reviews. Almost every review we read praised the look of the glasses, even if they had other qualms. The vast majority of complaints had to do with the glasses' size, which people said made them fall off easily.

Factorie Blue Light Reader Glasses

Best budget blue light glasses

Factorie Blue Light Reader Glasses

Pros

  • Super affordable
  • Wearable anywhere

Cons

  • Just two colour options
  • Some noticed quality issue

Factorie is known for its more affordable clothing and accessories, and it didn't miss a beat on its blue light glasses. With an understated and wearable design for just $15, the basic glasses are the best budget blue light glasses available in Australia.

The Blue Light Reader Glasses are incredibly simple, making them incredibly easy to pick up and put on, regardless of what else you're rocking outfit wise or where you are. The basic design makes it gender-neutral, too! Unfortunately, there's not much in the way of customisation with these cheap specs. There's just a clean black colourway and a tortoise colourway to choose from.

While most customers feel the glasses fit true to size, one reviewer said they fell on the smaller side. That could make for a rather uncomfortable experience for those with large heads, especially given the one-size-fits-all model.

Factorie's budget-friendly Blue Light Reader Glasses garnered an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 from two dozen reviews on Cotton On Group websites. Customers are mostly happy with their purchase. Some labelled the glasses stylish, and others were happy with the perceived difference that the blue light blocking eyewear made to their comfort. Almost no one experienced issues with their new specs. One buyer complained about the eyewear's overall quality, while another said their glasses arrived with a scratch on them.

Gamma Ray Blue Light Blocking Glasses

Best blue light glasses for magnification

Gamma Ray Blue Light Blocking Glasses

Pros

  • Plenty of magnification options
  • UV400 protection also protects against ultraviolet rays

Cons

  • Some magnification options cost more than others
  • Lenses have an amber tint

Gamma Ray Optics' Blue Light Blocking Glasses are a fairly standard affair in both design and fit. With plenty of magnification options as well as protection from both blue and UV light in an affordable package, these are the best blue light glasses for magnification.

The Blue Light Blocking Glasses feature a plain and simple design with a polycarbonate build, making the specs a great pick regardless of where you're planning on wearing them. Gamma Ray uses a "one-size-fits-most" model, aided by its flexible arms. Reviews confirmed this, with buyers overwhelmingly mentioning the glasses fit well. At 26 grams, the Blue Light Blocking Glasses aren't heavy, but they're not light either. If you're looking for something a little less hefty, multiple picks on this list weigh less than half the weight of these specs.

The lenses feature UV400 protection (for blocking out ultraviolet radiation) and also claim to reduce glare. The optics have a slight amber tint, which might not be everyone's cup of tea. Still, clear options typically come at a steeper price.

You can choose from six magnification options, ranging from no magnification to 2.00x magnification. Unfortunately, some options cost more than others, with the cheapest being the 2.00x magnification. The 1.00x magnification is the most costly, with a $5.70 price premium over less expensive models. Still, given the most pricey option is just $32.35, these aren't exactly expensive specs.

Gamma Ray's Blue Light Blocking Glasses sport a 4.3 out of 5 rating from more than 2,400 reviews on Amazon. Many buyers seemed pleased with the quality and aesthetic of these affordable glasses. However, a few people mentioned that keeping the eyewear clean was a challenge.

Ray-Ban New Wayfarer Blue-Light Clear

Best premium blue light glasses

Ray-Ban New Wayfarer Blue-Light Clear
Image: Supplied/Finder

Pros

  • Clear, UV-blocking lenses
  • Classic and stylish look

Cons

  • Very pricey
  • Materials not up to scratch

Arguably the world's most iconic eyewear brand, Ray-Ban's premium glasses have always been hotly desired by the masses. With a timeless design and clear lenses offering protection from both UV and blue light, the New Wayfarer Blue-Light Clear glasses are the best premium blue light glasses that you can get your hands on.

Based on Ray-Ban's classic Wayfarer glasses, the New Wayfarer iterates on an old favourite with a slightly redesigned frame. Still, the silhouette sticks true to its roots and keeps the easily recognisable shape of the originals. The lenses are slightly different too. While filtering out blue light, the clear lenses also protect from ultraviolet rays and block glare.

With an asking price of $192, you'd expect the best materials and build of any glasses on this list. That's not the case. While the specs have a perfectly acceptable acetate frame paired with clear nylon lenses, these aren't mindblowing at the price point. For some customers, the build quality didn't quite hit the mark they'd been expecting.

The New Wayfarer earned an Amazon review score of 4 out of 5 from more than two dozen reviews. Customers were happy with the looks of the classic glasses, but they weren't so keen on the price. Buyers said the almost $200 asking price was excessive given the ordinary quality of the specs.

EyeBuyDirect Daydream (with Blue-Light Blocking)

Best lightweight blue light glasses

EyeBuyDirect Daydream (with Blue-Light Blocking)
Image: Supplied/Finder

Pros

  • Weighs just 12 grams
  • Four types of blue light blocking to choose from

Cons

  • Comes in just two sizes
  • Blue light filtering comes at a cost

With an understated wireframe look and premium materials, EyeBuyDirect's Daydream packs everything you could need in a pair of glasses into a feather-light body. The Daydream is the best pair of lightweight blue light blocking glasses you can buy (once you add suitable lenses).

The Daydream features a super lightweight 12-gram metal body with round-shaped lenses, which you can wear anywhere. Still, the wireframe design is less standard and might not appeal to everyone. You won't have to look far if you want something else, as EyeBuyDirect has a hundreds-strong catalogue of glasses that you can add blue light blocking lenses to.

You can pick between three premium-looking colours to grab a pair that best suits your individual style and wardrobe: Brown Golden, Black Silver and Rose Gold. There are just two size variants of the light specs: small and medium, so those with a larger head should check out some of those other options.

EyeBuyDirect offers four types of blue light blocking lenses, which vary in features and cost. The entry-level option, EBDBlue Plus, costs an additional $27 over the $46 retail price of the glasses. The most advanced models can set you back up to a whopping $258 before any extra expenses such as shipping and shipping protection. Unfortunately, you won't find blue light blocking on any of EyeBuyDirect's prescription options.

The Daydream glasses have a 4.8 out of 5 star rating from more than 600 reviews on EyeBuyDirect's website, with the vast majority of those reviews being either 4 or 5 stars. Customers loved the thin wire frames on the Daydream and were happy with the comfort and fit. Some said the glasses could dig into the side of their head, though. Given these reviews feature on EyeBuyDirect's site, it might be worth giving the glasses a cursory search online before you buy, just so you're sure of your decision.

HyperX Spectre Stealth

Best blue light glasses for gaming

HyperX Spectre Stealth
Image: Supplied/Finder

Pros

  • Simple and wearable aesthetic
  • Durable acetate and stainless steel frame

Cons

  • Pricier than most standard blue light glasses

Renowned for its world-class gaming peripherals, HyperX has a long and storied history of releasing fantastic products to help gamers take their skills and experiences to the next level. With a premium and versatile design, the company's Spectre Stealth specs are the best blue light blocking glasses for gaming that money can buy.

HyperX learned a lot from its first gaming glasses and implemented noticeable improvements into the Spectre Stealth. The most prominent upgrade is the materials: the Spectre Stealth uses a premium and durable acetate and stainless steel frame that customers praised in their reviews.

There's no aggressive gamer aesthetic to the glasses, unlike plenty of other specs built with gamers in mind. The Spectre Stealth's subtle look means they're wearable like any other pair of off-the-shelf glasses. The clear lenses are made out of nylon and are anti-reflective while also offering UV and blue light protection.

The Spectre Stealth has an overwhelmingly positive rating on Amazon, earning a staggering 4.9 out of 5 stars from 40 reviews. Customers have almost nothing negative to say about these specs, praising their comfort, build quality and looks. The only negative note was a slightly noticeable tint on the glasses (despite being labelled as "crystal clear" by HyperX), which might not make them a great choice if you're planning on using the glasses while working on colour-sensitive projects.

LifeArt Blue Light Blocking Reading Glasses

Best blue light reading glasses

LifeArt Blue Light Blocking Reading Glasses
Image: Supplied/Finder

Pros

  • Super lightweight
  • Plenty of colour variants

Cons

  • Bizarre sizing
  • Middling quality

LifeArt's Reading Glasses offer up plenty of customisation options, protection from both UV and blue light and have a price tag that won't break the bank, making them the best blue light reading glasses on the market.

The LifeArt Reading Glasses sport a TR90 frame, which is more flexible and damage-resistant than more rigid materials such as acetate. The lenses are resin, which can, unfortunately, be more prone to scratching. Those materials make the specs some of the lightest on this list, weighing in at just 12.5 grams. Several customers experienced quality issues with their glasses: some reported breakages after a few months of use.

If you need magnification, these glasses will do the trick. You can pick from 17 different options, ranging from no magnification to 4.00x magnification. On top of that, the lenses protect from ultraviolet rays while also filtering blue light.

Speaking of choice, LifeArt provides 18 different colour options for its reading glasses, so you can grab a pair that matches your aesthetic and wardrobe.

LifeArt's Reading Glasses are well-liked by customers, with an overall rating of 4.4 out of 5 from more than 2,800 reviews on Amazon. Purchasers were pleasantly surprised with the lightweight design and value for money. Some weren't so impressed with the quality, though, which seemed to be the most common complaint. Issues with broken frames or arms falling off weren't uncommon.
