When picking out your juicer, you'll need to consider several things before you head out and splurge on the most expensive model.
At present, there are three main types of juicers in the Australian market. Scroll on to learn a little more about each one.
Centrifugal juicers are the most popular on the market as they are fast, efficient and relatively affordable. They're also super easy to clean with many models offering dishwasher safe attachments and jugs. The main downside to this type of juicer is that they don't really do too well with leafy greens. Plus, they can be a little on the noisy side.
Next, we come to the masticating, cold press or slow juicer. This type of juicer uses a slowly rotating auger to physically press the juice out of the fruits and vegetables and is the best option if you want to retain most of the healthy vitamins and minerals from your fresh produce. One downside with this option is that the preparation of your veggies before juicing will take much longer.
This is an upmarket option for lavish budgets. Twin-gear juicer models have two augers that work together to achieve the same quality of juice created by cold press juicers in half the time. Thanks to the lack of oxidation during the juicing process, your concoction will stay fresher for longer. However, they can be quite expensive and usually aren't the ideal choice when shopping for a smaller kitchen.Back to top
The basic thing to bear in mind is to clean your juicer each and every time you use it. This prevents the build-up of unwanted pulp and ultimately reduces any health risks from decaying or rotting fruit or vegetables.
To clean your juicer, you must first unplug it from the mains and then disassemble it entirely. Clean each piece with antibacterial washing fluid and a sponge or long-handled brush if there are areas that are harder to reach. Then, simply leave the parts to dry naturally in your draining rack. You can reassemble the juicer once all of the components are dry.
Some models have dishwasher-friendly parts and pieces that you will be able to simply rinse and run through your usual daily cycle along with your pots and pans. Always double-check the manual regarding dishwasher safety beforehand to avoid damaging any vital components.Back to top
