If you want to get on top of existing debt, use points for flights and other rewards or save on interest when you pay with plastic, looking at credit cards with introductory offers will help you find one that helps you reach your goals. These offers come and go throughout the year, so it’s important to check out what’s available when you’re ready to apply.

Here, you’ll find the top deals from the finder database for February based on value for money and eligibility requirements – including a balance transfer offer that could give you 0% p.a. until mid-2020 and a frequent flyer card with a bonus 100,000 Qantas Points up for grabs.

Best 0% balance transfer offer

Westpac Low Rate – Online only balance transfer offer

westpac-low-rate250x158This Westpac Low Rate balance transfer offer gives you 0% p.a. interest for 30 months, making it one of the longest introductory periods available. It has a one-off 2% balance transfer fee and also offers a $0 annual fee in the first year (reverts to $59 p.a. thereafter). At the end of the 30-month balance transfer period, any remaining debt from the transfer will attract the variable cash advance rate, currently 21.49% p.a.

Beyond the balance transfer offer, the Westpac Low Rate has a competitive variable purchase rate of 13.49% p.a. and offers compatibility with Samsung Pay and Android Pay.

What do I have to do to get this offer?
  • Apply online by 28 February 2018. This offer is only available if you apply online by 28 February 2018 and request the balance transfer at the time of your application.
  • Eligible debts. This card lets you transfer a balance or balances from up to three non-Westpac, Australian-issued credit, charge or store cards.
  • Balance transfer amount. You can transfer a minimum of $200 and up to 80% of your approved credit limit onto the Westpac Low Rate card.
  • Card activation. You must activate your credit card to start the balance transfer process. Note that it could take several business days for the debt to show in your new Westpac Low Rate account. Remember to make any repayments on existing accounts if they are due before the transfer is completed.

Alternative offer: NAB Premium (exclusive)

Exclusive to finder.com.au, this balance transfer offer on the NAB Premium gives you 0% p.a. on balance transfers for 25 months with no balance transfer fee. The NAB Premium also comes with a range of complimentary insurance covers – including overseas travel insurance – and charges a $90 annual fee.

Best reward or frequent flyer bonus point offer

Qantas American Express Ultimate

Qantas-Amex-Ultimate250x160This top-tier American Express frequent flyer credit card is offering 100,000 Qantas Points when you apply online by 9 April 2018 and spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months of card membership. That’s enough points for a return economy flight from Sydney to Las Vegas (90,000 points) or a return business class flight from Brisbane to Bali (80,000 points).

The Qantas American Express Ultimate also offers 1.5 Qantas Points per $1 on most everyday purchases, 0.5 points per $1 for government charges, with no point cap. You also get an additional point per $1 for eligible spending with Qantas, complimentary airport lounge passes, travel insurance and an annual $450 Qantas Travel Credit that balances out the card’s $450 annual fee.

What do I have to do to get this offer?
  • Apply online by 9 April 2018. This bonus points offer is only available when you apply online by 9 April 2018.
  • New card members only. You’re eligible for the 100,000 Qantas Points offer if you’re a new American Express card member and haven’t held an account with Amex in the past 18 months. Note that this offer is also available if you have a bank-issued Amex card.
  • Spend criteria. To get the bonus 100,000 Qantas Points, you have to use your card to pay for at least $3,000 worth of eligible spending. This includes most everyday purchases but won't include transactions such as cash advances, balance transfers, foreign currency or fees.

Alternative offer: St.George Amplify Signature – Qantas Points

The St.George Amplify Signature offers a bonus 90,000 points when you apply by 19 April 2018 and spend $5,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days from card approval. It has an annual fee of $279 that’s competitive for a top-tier rewards card. To get 90,000 Qantas Points, make sure you choose Amplify Qantas and provide your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number during the application. Otherwise, you could get 90,000 Amplify Rewards points, which could be used for travel, merchandise or transferred to other partner frequent flyer programs.

Best 0% purchase or cashback credit card offer

Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer – 0% interest offer

After the introductory period, a standard variable interest rate of 20.74% p.a. applies to purchases – including any balance from purchases you’ve made with the card.

As well as offering 0% p.a. for 14 months on purchases, the Velocity Flyer earns 0.66 Velocity Points per $1 on eligible purchases, up to $1,500 per month, then 0.5 points per $1. It also offers a $129 Virgin Australia gift voucher each year you have the card, which helps offset the $129 annual fee.

What do I have to do to get this offer?
  • Apply by 28 February 2018. To get 0% p.a. on purchases for the first 14 months, you have to apply by 28 February 2018.
  • Eligible spending. While the 0% p.a. purchase rate applies to most of your everyday spending, transactions such as cash advances and balance transfers are not eligible for this promotional purchase rate.
  • Interest-free period. The 0% p.a. for 14 months offer begins from the date your account is approved. Keep in mind that it may take a few days to get your card in the mail after your application is approved.

Alternative offer: NAB Low Rate Platinum

The NAB Low Rate Platinum offers 0% p.a. on purchases for the first 9 months before reverting to a competitive standard variable purchase rate of 13.99% p.a. It also offers complimentary travel insurance and purchase insurance cover, with an annual fee of $100.
